While I used to hold pretty strongly the UU view, and believed quite strongly in the whole "live and let live" sort of philosophy (or perhaps, believe and let believe is more correct:rolleyes:), I have hardened my heart a bit towards the religious. I am not militant, and I am no fan of violence or subversion, but I think, like someone already said, religion is forced down your throat from the beginning, and people rarely have the chance to choose their religious views as freely as they are supposedly allowed. Most people end up adopting the same religion they were brought up in, even if their understanding of the world or personal views don't actually coincide.

Dawkin's approach may be a bit too strong for my tastes, for the most part I still do believe that people should be left to believe what they want, but only so long as it doesn't infringe upon the rights of others, and the fact is, many religions have made it perfectly clear they they are going to continue to enforce their points of view. I don't think we should necessarily wipe religion from the world, but I do think we should put up an adequate resistance. We should be willing to fight just as feverishly to teach our children real science, real and applicable morals, and real, open-minded philosophical ideas (rather than one-sided, black-and-white views).

Dennett's position is also equally untenable. Unless you can change the people belief that some aspects of religion is bad, then there is no way you can their mind.
I realised that the sentence didn't make sense.

Edit:

Unless you can change the people belief that some aspects of religion is bad, then there is no way you can CHANGE their mind.
