Is Hinduism Wrong? Christianity OK?

I've been a Christian my whole life but as I get older (i'm 20 ) I question things. Whats wrong with religions like Hinduism? Is it just a mystical religion. what will happen to everyone that doesn't have the opportunity to learn about Christ? Will everyone who is not Christian be caught up in the Rapture? I know the Christian faith cannot be wrong because all of the events in revelations are unfolding but don't other religions like Hinduism or Buddhism have revelations? Will Christians be punished if we practice Hinduism is it considered occult? I'm really questioning religions now because there are so many but Christianity seems like it is the only right one because the book of revelation IS unfolding if you look closely. Please fill in the gaps someone. I would really really appreciate it! Thanks!

Hi Showstopperdrew, welcome to RF.

Wow! That's a lot of questions. It sounds like you're specifically asking for the Christian perspective on a lot of these so you might do better posting them in the Christian DIR forum, or the Same Faiths Debate forum.

If you look throughout history, especically American religion, you will find Reveltions has seeminly been unfolding for the last 2000 years. Please dont be fooled into just another modern day interpratation. Some simple searches even on e.g apoplaytic religions will show how many express compelling evidence for this throughout time.

Welcome, Showstopperdrew, ('drew?)

I've heard this revelation argument before, and it seems to me that people may be cherry-picking evidence, inventing patterns, &c.

Haven't people been pointing out prophetic incidents or predicting the imminent end of the world for thousands of years? and not just within the Christian community? I've heard advocates of Mayan religion and Nostradamus arguing the same case.
With each generation a new evidence-set is touted out and convincing arguments presented. Forgive me if I'm a bit skeptical about the current re-iteration.

The man (or woman) doesn't want to be told whether Christianity is right or wrong. He just wants to know whether believing in Christ is enough for Christians.

Well Mr.(or Ms.) only Christians who have thoroughly studied the bible can give you a Christian perspective.

If you want a logical perspective, though, obviously, if someone doesn't hear about Christ (which was very possible a hundred or more years ago) God won't punish that person for not believing in him.

What you can say, though, is that (if Christ is indeed the Son of God) then those who find out the truth and reject it... they are cursed.

It might also help if you check the "Are all others Damned" thread in the "Bilblical Discussions" folder in the "Religious Debates" folder in the "Religious Topics" folder in the "Religious Education Forum" on www.religiousforums.com.

What great questions! Rather than answer them though, I would recommend that you take time to slow down and get to know everybody on the forum. You'll have all sorts of answered questions in no time (or maybe no answers at all). Welcome!

It is a pretty good question. The best bet would be to read the writings of the Hindu faith and talk to the Hindus here to find out all you can about the faith.

It is not right to judge something you know nothing about. :)

All religions come from God. So all relgions are ok . Nothing is wrong with Hinduism. The question about what will happen to people who haven't had the opportunity to learn about Christ, is more complicated. I'm sure God will be merciful to everyone though. I won't talk about the rapture. If the Christian faith can't be wrong, can other faiths be right too? Christians will not be punished for practicing Hinduism. Events in the book of revelation have been occuring for a very long time.

In my very humble opinion, The Christian faith is very good, but the bible has been edited from it's original state. It has been censored and changed. It is still very good. Like I said before, all religions come from God, and all religions have the same goal, to get to heaven, or to get to know God.

What if you could go to heaven before you died, and still live your normal life?

Hi Drew, can i call you drew? in looking at your post the first thing that comes to my mind is my concern for the prespective of the person asking the questions. the way you ask questions automatically places your perspective above some of those whom you are asking questions of. "whats wrong with hinduism...I know the Xtian faith cannot be wrong...will xtians be punished...revelation IS unfolding...etc" It sounds to me that you think you already know the answers to these questions.

So what you are saying is: "I don't really want to believe what you say, but I'll listen anyway if it makes me feel better"

In order to understand anything anymore than you already do it is absolutely necessary for you to put yourself in a different frame of mind. You can't just question bits and pieces, you gotta look at the whole omelet.

You say Xtianity seems like the only right one. Tell me, Have you ever been to any other faith's services? what kind of community did you grow up in?

BTW, Hinduism is not just a mystical religion, first of all it predates modern Xtianity by at least a few thousand years. It has its own pantheon of gods and goddesses, and a huge collection of laws and traditions.

Bounce around the site for a while, get a feel for the people here, and maybe you'll find that you won't have to ask these questions, as you will find the answers on your journey.

oh yeah, last I checked revelation has been unfolding for about 1800 years. ;)

Nothing is wrong with Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, etc. I believe they are ALL the right and true religion. Whichever path you choose to take is right for you. It is a personal decision. In fact there a quiet a few Christian Witches ( I am not one of them) , that choose to believe in the Christian God, while also doing spells and magick works. I think if you want to be a combination of a few religions then go for it, it is healthy to experiment :)

Everyone that led a good life will go to heaven. Anyone, whether they were Buddist, Hindu, Christian, or anything will go to heaven as long as they were good in their life.

Think logically. How can everyone that's not Christian be wiped off the face of the Earth just because they were not Christian? God, that Universal life force, or whatever we may call it, will bring all of it's good and faithful children home.

I believe I can help you with these problems, if you are interested please pm me, if you believe the bible is the word of God and regard it as your authority on how the faith should be practiced I can answer your questions.

I like your ecumicalism, JTFC, but it begs the question of what a good life is. Most people assume that adherance to the values and norms of one's society constitutes 'a good life,' but different societies can have very different values, and can, collectively, do some very bad things.

Hi, just a quick question (though offtopic) when were you born again? How did it happen?
life but as I get older (i'm 20 ) I question things
.I believe it is always good to be questioning, the truth has nothing to fear.
Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Whats wrong with religions like Hinduism?
They do not promote reconciliation with Jehovah, the God revealed in the Holy Bible. This is the first and foremost problem and is a massive one for if you are not reconciled to God through His Son and made holy by His blood then you are eternally lost, doomed to hell.

2nd Thessalonians 1:8-9 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

St. John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

what will happen to everyone that doesn't have the opportunity to learn about Christ?
No one that would have been saved had they heard the gospel does not get to hear it. God has made sure that those whom He knew from eternity past would believe on Him get to hear the gospel. We can trust in God's goodness in this matter, He has made the ultimate gesture towards humanity to prove His good intentions towards them.

Epistle to Romans 8:28-30 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Genesis 18:25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

Will everyone who is not Christian be caught up in the Rapture?
The rapture is for those who are in Christ only. It is a coming for the saints.

1st Thessalonians4:15-18 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
I know the Christian faith cannot be wrong because all of the events in revelations are unfolding but
Not only so but also elsewhere in the bible.

Matthew 24:7-8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Matthew 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

don't other religions like Hinduism or Buddhism have revelations?
Lets see if any of the representatives of these religions will post any.

Will Christians be punished if we practice Hinduism is it considered occult?
I think it would be something to be repented of. Here are a few examples of people who professed faith in God but practiced practices from other religions;

2nd Kings 16:2-3 Twenty years old was Ahaz when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD his God, like David his father. But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, yea, and made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel.

2nd Kings 17:7-12 For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,
And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.
And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.
And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:
And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger: For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing

2nd Kings 21:1-3 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hephzibah.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel. For he built up again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made a grove, as did Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.

The Christian God has declared in the bible that He is the only God and there are no others beside Him, yet in Hinduism there are millions. The Hindu faith and all others do not declare that we need the sacrificial blood of Christ to cleanse us from our sins, yet the Christian faith declares this is mans only hope of being reconciled to a holy God! Why would a Christian want to practice any other faith? What kind of witness is it to none Christians? Surely they would get the impression that it doesn't matter which god you worship as Christians are giving their approval to others. What kind of love is it not to warn someone of the dangers of not knowing God through Jesus Christ? Surely it is a dire and atrocious act to keep such good news to yourself. What can hinduism or any other religion offer a Christian that a relationship with the Creator of the universe has lacking? What an insult to the One who gave everything for you to go and then practice a religion that keeps people whom He loves seperated from Him!

In the end it is either / or, choose who you will serve but you cannot do both, God will not be mocked:

1st Corinthians 10:20-22 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

I'm really questioning religions now because there are so many but Christianity seems like it is the only right one because the book of revelation IS unfolding if you look closely.
Yes these are the latter days, all the more reason then to proclaim the gospel in a crystal clear manner, non Christians have a horror to face and we have the responsability to show love to our fellow man and share the gospel with them, they must know that they are sinners, vile in Gods sight and under His wrath and condemnation. Show them God's law that they may flee to the Saviour for cleasing from the vile and cancerous sin that is in them. If you have received the cure yourself how can you not share it? Love demands it of you.

Jude 1:21-23 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
