A Question for fellow Christians.

What does the Word of God have to say? Here's a starter on the issue:

Matthew 22:14:

"For many are called, but few are chosen."

you have to read the rest of it.

Matthew 7:
21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Ourth 5th Article of Faith:
5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

This is where Authority is a neccesity, it is an Authorization to act or speak in God's name.

Authority is only a necessity for your Article of Faith, and it is a clear departure from scripture.

We are to be known by our love. Nothing more and surely nothing less. Surely not some man made articles of faith. Thought you should know.

how? when i clearly posted the scripture to back it up? do you interpit the scripture to mean something else?

If that is the case then we have no common ground on this matter and hence is Moot trying to discuss it further.

The scriptures you quoted did not back up a need for some earthly authority.

Jesus is the only REAL authority... and we know his will as we are led by the Spirit.

Matthew 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. NIV

But the priesthood is not an earthly authority. It is the authority by which God rules the universe. Only through His authority can we perform actions that have an impact in the eternities.

Jesus is the High Priest.

Hebrews 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. NIV

Yes Jesus is the Great High Priest. And....

Christians are the priests!

I Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. NIV

how do you extrapolate that idea from that verse?

You're not very likely to. That would constitute proof-texting, which, as we all know, doesn't work, and it's extremely poor scholarship. You can either keep dabbling in the kiddie pool, or you can jump in the deep end with some scholarship.

Just say you can't interpret the verse to mean something it doesn't. atleast we can have a meaningful discussion.

all you have done so far is brag about your schlarship, nothing more:sleep:

What compromises a priesthood??? Bikers? Scuba Divers? Leprechauns farting in a tree?

A priesthood is made up of PRIESTS. Call me Captain Obvious for stating what is plainly visible.
of course it is made up of priests, but the authority still has to be there.

not all who claim to be chrisitans have the proper authority.

I believe as you do, Christine. What kind of a loving Father in Heaven would condemn someone to Hell for no reason at all, particularly someone who actually loves Him and wants to be His child?

Luke 11:10-13 says, "For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"

Honestly, I can't see how anyone could possibly believe otherwise, but I've run into plenty of people who do, so what do I know?

that's lovely, Katz. i'd agree. if God is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, surely He can and will guide those who seek Him.

i've been having some interesting experiences lately, and i do feel that God is calling me. seek and you will find- God's call is irresistible.

Did you type this with a STRAIGHT face??? Where on earth is your scriptural reference for this??? Acts 2:38 says ALL who are baptized in his name will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Amen!

I'm pretty sure MH's face was straight when he typed that, Pete. Having the gift of the Holy Spirit is not the same thing to many Christians as holding the same authority Jesus conferred upon His Apostles. Actually, the gift of the Holy Ghost/Spirit is not even received at baptism but by the laying on of hands. I know this is one area in which you and I disgree, and I'm not sure I'm up to arm-wrestling you tonight. Love ya anyway. :D

Just waiting for that scriptural reference. :D
Very well. You're just going to interpret them as you wish anyway.

1 Timothy 4:14
2 Timothy 1:6
