Is gas too expensive if most people still are speeding and wasting gas?

Oh well though then don't complain about the price the next time you buy gas.

Hey... I'll complain if I want... I said "Oh well..." because I mean that I shouldn't get upset over stuff that's already done. Why be angry about it. It won't solve anything... I guess it won't solve anything to be angry about the price of gas either though... Let's all just have a great day, no matter what. :D

If you didn't already know that speeding burns more gas where have you been? Right, let's all have a nice day now that we screwed the world up.;)

Why wouldn't we want to have a nice day?? Just because the world sucks doesn't mean we should all have a horrible day... I like to have a nice day no matter what... Why wouldn't I?? :D

Our speed limit on the highway is 120 Kph (75 Mph) however I have noticed even on my way home today traffic never went faster than 80 Kph (50 Mph) It seems to me people are really slowing down (here anyway) however the idiots in the big SUV's still go like hell and bob and weave in and out of traffic, I'm guessing they have LPG or NGV conversions.

What's gas going for over there?

I drive 38 miles to work, and I average 75-80 MPH when the traffic allows. I don't see any reason to change my driving habits as of now.

EDIT: Also, in Europe people don't drive as much. There are much better public transportation systems, and people don't go as far to work in general as we do in the U.S. So, the big difference in price is not as big a deal.

why we have more than enough gas. like i said, the us reserves most of its gas. there are huge undug reserves across the world. the world will never run out of oil, we'd have to use it at a really high rate and this is nothing.

it's just to scare us into submission and it's working. they can get the price of oil up using anything now.

Actually, oil is a non-renewable resource; it takes millions of years for the earth to produce it. Once it's gone, it's gone.

 I've been driving for 2 years... and I never knew that... Oh, how much monies I must have wasted... Oh well though. :D

Yup because when you go faster there is greater air friction. That is why if you take a car that does 100mph and double the horse power it won't do 200mph. Plus there is also down force which will increase the weight of the car. And thirdly going faster generally means that the engine is revving higher which also uses more fuel.

Um yea that is wrong. Most people here use there car to get to work, very few use public transport. So really the big price difference is a big deal. America has very cheap fuel prices.

OK, that's just what I've heard from many other Europeans, and what I've encountered in my studies. I was speaking generally. I'm sure there are many people who do use just as much gas over there. I'd be willing to bet on average, though, that people in Europe don't drive as far as people in America.

Once upon a time....
I decided to drive the speed limit (65 mph) on the highway today and I noticed two things.

1. Doing the speed limit really cuts down on fuel consumption. On my way to my destination, I averaged 75 mph and 27 mpg. On my way home I set my cruise control at 65 and got 32 mpg.

2. People aren't changing their driving habits and driving slower. I was passed by virtually every car on the highway and many were doing well over the speed limit. Most people obviously aren't that concerned over the price of gas to consider slowing down to actually save some money.

The British public transport system is rubbish, but in a lot of European countries is is fantastic. I have only been abroad once (Sad, I know) and that was for a school physics trip (even sadder) to Geneva to have a look at the CERN project (Arguable either way). Their public transport system was, frankly, fantastic compared to the dismal attempt we have in England.

I use public transport, because I haven't got a license, and even if I had one I couldn't afford to keep a car on student money. It cost me about £2-300 to get my bus pass for the university year, and at home most things are in walking distance. I visuit home every so often, and it costs me about £15-20 return.

I certainly see the financial upside to public transport reliance, but it depends entirely where you are.

I'd rather see a market flood of vehicles that run alternative fuels and at the same time see the slow
faze out of gasoline vehicles. Even the large trucks on the road are on their way. (Mack) has a hybrid vehicle now. So it is definitely possible.

Thanks.....

It just...I see people constantly talking about the gas prices and how we should change our driving habbits but maybe the solution, with the technology, we have we can continue to build better vehicles that do not rely on fossil fuels. The US has spent a sum of 2 to three TRILLION dollars on the war in an eight year pan of time. If we had focused that money completely on alternative (clean) evergy (Solar, wind, electric, hydrogen) we'd probably be free of fossil fuels or almost close to being free. (NOTE: I know some of these may not be "clean" fuels but it could be a step in the right direction).

In the US by next year all TVs will be digital. This is a rule that is in effect. How about we pass a law that demands car manufacturers to be free of fossil fuel by 2015. I think it can be done.

ok...ok.....enough of my "rant" for now.....:D

Brilliant.
Passing a law that is tantamount to economic suicide. That will go well with the public.
