Should I vote?

I remember in the Florida debacle in 2000 someone saying "but no one would cast a blank ballot for President!"

Uh...really? I have, several times.

If I don't like any of the candidates and don't want to vote 3rd party or write in, I leave it blank.

But that doesn't mean I don't want to vote for state or local candidates or proposals.
Every election I've voted in has had separate ballots for each position/proposition, but if they were all combined so that me writing "NONE OF THE ABOVE" across one category would void the whole ballot, I might leave that section blank instead.

You can all sleep soundly knowing that I won't be your President. I'm not wired correctly for politics. If nominated I will not run. If elected I will not serve. :rainbow1:

Just vote for stuff where you feel like you've actually been given a real choice. If the slate of presidential candidates is the usual choice between two pandering sleazebags, just leave it blank. Surely there are some local issues that are important to you, and local candidates who still have the public interest in mind.

Lenin once pointed out that it's not the person who votes who has the power: it's the people who COUNT the votes. The Republican leadership have shown this to be true in the past two elections.

Way to burst our dream bubble.

Surely there are...local candidates who still have the public interest in mind.

I thought politicians who had the public interest in mind were just a myth.

As always, South Park did a great episode about elections I think during the last presidential elections. The moral was that every election comes down to the choice between a d-bag and a ("T" word for poop) sandwich, but you should still exercise your right to vote. I tend to agree more with Dopp's philosophy, but they had the first part right at least.

The higher up you go the less frequent they are. But you can still find people dedicated to public service at the local level. Heck, our friend GeneCosta is running for mayor in his hometown.

Oh but now, if you were wired "correctly" for politics...
I'm SURE then, I would not be able to vote for you. :p

You can't win, you won't run, you won't serve.
Now there's a campaign we can all feel good about. :D

Anyone who knows me here as well as Dopp,
knows that my symbolisms must well represent me.

I simply cannot vote for something(someone) I would never vote for
just because someone says "you need to vote for one of these choices".
That's even worse than a vapid multiple choice test.
That defies the SPIRIT of "Vote!"
A Vote should be cast with power and joy!
Because it MEANS something to you.
Because it is actually your VOTE!

You understand, I imagine,
that, for me, a "vote for Dopp"
is a SYMBOLISM cast...

It's like saying to the UniVerse
I cast my vote for a "leadership" LIKE Dopp.
A leadership that tells INDIVIDUALS
they are their own hero!
A leadership that says...
"you don't need me!"
"Go out and be the hero of your own life!"

A preside-ant who'se philosopy
is "go and preside over your own life".

Of course I'm just getting at an essence here.

I truly do want to cast a "spell"
in the voting booth,
since I can't ACTUALLY cast a vote.

What will I symbolize there?
And how will I EXPRESS that symbolism?

Perhaps an empty ballot is the best representation
of where I find myself as a "vote castor".
But it just seems so empty.
So unMajikal. So non. So nothing.

Thanks alot Dopp... :149:
for "spoiling" my ballot. :flirt:

If I were to run, my campaign slogan would be: "You want something to cry about? By God, I'll give you something to cry about!"

If I ran, it would be on an "anarchy" platform, and I would promise not to show up for work or take any public money.

That reminds me of a Libertarian candidate we had one time for the state "Railroad Commission" who ran on the platform that, if elected, he would immediately dissolve the agency.

The cake is a lie
You should definitely vote... as long as you vote for Cake. Cake has the ability to make Americans happy. People gather around Cake for birthdays, holidays, and family get togethers. Cake is the very foundation of the family, and the only logical thing to put on the ballot.

When I lived in the states I used to say "if you don't vote you have no right to complain". Thus I have become very un-political and when people ask me what I think I tell them I didn't vote so I am not entitled to an opinion.
