ilm is the arabic word that refers to knowledge, scientific/religious knowledge.
why do people separate science and religion? they are the same. scientific knowledge just increases faith for those who really believe that God is One. unless of course someone follows a path that is different than that taught by the prophet(s) they claim to follow. then they will see differences.

Science isn't the same as religion to me... Science is things that can be proven, while religion is just something people have to believe without proof.

Oh they have proof in the judicial sense, but not evidence. At least not in the scientific sense. Just thought I'd point that out. ;)

i think what's he saying is not like 'religion is science'. Ilm is science and it is given to people by God. however science could 'be' without religion, religion is never without science. therefor it happened to be a religious Muslim who uncovered/discovered number 0.

Abdu'l Baha, Baha`i World Faith, p. 240

"13The fourth teaching of Bahá'u'lláh is the agreement of religion and science. God has endowed man with intelligence and reason whereby he is required to determine the verity of questions and propositions. If religious beliefs and opinions are found contrary to the standards of science they are mere superstitions and imaginations; for the antithesis of knowledge is ignorance, and the child of ignorance is superstition. Unquestionably there must be agreement between true religion and science. If a question be found contrary to reason, faith and belief in it are impossible and there is no outcome but wavering and vacillation. "

I fail to see how science and religion are the same as science requires proof and (most) religion requires faith and or belief with out evidence.

Science and religion are opposites, which is why they have been at odds throughout history.

Science is the organized(hopefully) search for truth. Religion accepts some truth as a given, on faith.

Science rejects a theory if evidence comes forth that disproves it. Religion by its nature never rejects its major premise, regardless of any scientific evidence that might counter it.

Are you talking about a specific religion, or just religion in general?

Answer it please Logician?

The Catholic church (and other faiths) even today are still at odds with science in some ways, opposing stem cell research, and opposing scientific ways to control the population explosion.
Of course, many fundamentalist faiths don't believe even in the basic sciences of evolution, cosmology, astronomy, etc.
