Brief history of the Church of Jesus Christ

We are all the children of our Heavenly Father. God loves us and cares for us. Through His Son Jesus Christ He has prepared a way for us to return to live with Him. God wants all His children to know of Christ. The bible shows us that God has always taught His children through prophets, holy men chosen by God to declare His word. God has again spoke in our day, He continues to speak to His children through prophets. This began with the prophet Joseph Smith.

In 1820 Joseph Smith was just 14 years old. He lived in upper state New York, in a place historians call the burned over region, because of the large religious activity. Joseph believed in God, but was confused by the great number of churches who all taught from the Bible, but taught different things about God. He wanted to follow God, but didn't know what to believe. One day while reading the Bible he read James 1:5 wich says if any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not and it shall be given him. Joseph decided to do as the Bible said, to find truth he would ask God.

Early one morning Joseph went to a grove of trees near his house to pray and to ask God what to believe. He kneeled down and began to pray. In his own words this is what happened "I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. When the light rested upon me I saw two personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spoke unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other-This is My Belved Son. Hear Him.

In answer to his prayer God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith. Through this and other experiences he was called as a prophet of God. He was much like Moses, or Abraham, or other prophets, they too saw God and were called to proclaim his message.

Joseph Smith did not say, I read the bible and I believe differently so I'll start a church. He said, I saw God, I talked to God, and this is what He said. The world has been in a state of confusion for many years, even with the word of God as found in the Bible many are led astray and many don't know what to believe. God has spoken in our day, he continues to speak through modern prophets, the truths of God are made manifest by God Himself to His prophets. This is the Church of Jesus Christ, He stands at the head, and He directs it be revelation to His servants.

One role Joseph played as God's prophet was to bring forth the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is a record of God's dealings with the people of the Americas. Their record was hidden in the ground and brought forth in our day as the Book of Mormon.

The first prophet of the Book of Mormon was a man named Lehi. Lehi lived in Jerusalem around 600 B.C. God called him as a prophet to warn the people of thier coming destruction and captivity. Before the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians God directed Lehi and his family to leave Jerusalem, He guided them across the ocean to a land of promise, the Americas. God called prophets among these people and taught to them the truths of His gospel. After the death, resurection, and ascension of Jesus Christ, Christ appeared to these people and this is included in their record. The records of all the prophets were compiled by a prophet historian named Mormon, hence the book has been called the Book of Mormon. It stands as another testament of Jesus Christ.

The Bible teaches of God, by reading the words of God we can come to know Him. We learn more as we read the testimony of many witnesses. We learn of the life of Christ by reading the writings of Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John, their words support each other and shed greater light on the life of Christ, by reading all their words together we can learn more. The Book of Mormon also teaches of Christ, by reading its words we can come to know God, the Bible and the Book of Mormon were both written by Holy men called as prophets, they both stand as a testimony of Jesus Christ.

Christ restored to the earth His church through the prophet Joseph Smith, He also restored His priesthood, or the authority to act in His name. John the Baptist bestowed the lesser or aronic priesthood on Joseph Smith. A Short time later the higher or Melchezidic priesthood was restored by the hands of Peter James and John. The power of God is again on the earth.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is led today by a prophet of God, he continues to speak. The message of this church is that God lives, He loves His children, He desires all to come unto Him and learn of Him.

First off, I want to state that the LDS religion does not fit into the Christianity Section because Christianity is the belief that Christ alone can save a person. None can save themself, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, this NOT OF YOURSELF, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast." (Eph 2:8-9)

James 1:5 suggests that man should ask God for wisdom, this much is correct. But how many have asked God for wisdom? Many have and many have received. But to those who have not received, it is because they ask with improper motives. (James 4:3). So, why is it that one man is better than all the others? He is not. No man is better than any man.

In my own faith, we know that man is week and evil from birth. He can do nothing to save himself; he cannot even accept God, but God must accept him. "For you did not choose me, but I chose you." John 15:16 or "There is no one righteous, not even one. There is no one who understands, no one who seeks God." Romans 3:10-11.

If you mean to tell me that the Bible is outdated and that the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine of Covenants are the new scriptures, then I ask you, why do they contradict? God is unchanging, He does not alter his being to fit the times of man. To God, there is no time, there is no space, there is only eternity.

The Book of Mormon and the Bible are pretty similar, in that the Book of Mormon takes from the Bible and adds to it, which, by the way, is against the Book of Revelation, which declares that, "I warn everyone who hears the words of prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from his share in the Tree of Life and in the Holy City, which are described in this book."

Another strange occurance is that the Book of Mormon claims that there is one God and one God alone (which is the truth), but the Doctrine of Covenants claims that there are many gods over many different worlds. It also claims that the god of this earth has a physical body, while the Book of Mormon claims he is a spirit. Contradiction within the ranks? I think so.

The Bible has never been rewritten. It has been retranslated, but that is not nearly the same thing. Since the Book of Mormon was first written in English, it cannot be retranslated into English, but it has been rewritten several times, because of some Revelation of the supposed Prophet. I find this a disgrace to God to say that He would change His mind because man decided to change his mind. This is the same problem with the Catholic Pope, who, according to my faith, is the antichrist of Revelation. Man does not decide God, God does not decide God. God is as his nature allows Him to be, and that is His only limitation, which makes him all the greater.

Please do not think that I hate people of other religions. The truth is, I love because the Father loves me, therefore I wish for all men to be saved, though I know it will never happen, for the Bible makes it clear that most will follow the wide road. Most people will stop reading this message before they reach this point because it is too offensive. Let me tell you, the truth IS offensive. There is no truth that will not offend the liar. Go in peace...

Ah, another misinformed person throwing in his two cents. A little scripture from the Book of Mormon:

II Nephi 25:20 - behold I say unto you, that as these things are true, and as the Lord God liveth, there is none other name given under heaven save it be this Jesus Christ, of which I have spoken, whereby man can be saved.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does and always has believed the same thing.

So, why is it that one man is better than all the others? He is not. No man is better than any man.

What is your point?

God is unchanging, He does not alter his being to fit the times of man. To God, there is no time, there is no space, there is only eternity.

What makes you think they believe otherwise?

THis is a joke; I don't know how many times I've addressed this, but here goes. John was not speaking of the Bible; the Bible would not exist for another hundred years (and Revelations would not become canon for another 1400 years after that).

He speaks of "these things," so it would be of paramount importance to establish what "these things" mean. He refers to "these things" in every single one of his letters, and in each and every one he refers to his own personal writings, not the Bible.

Revelations was the first book that John wrote that appears in our Bible today, so your judgment renders I, II, II John and his Gospel uterly apostate and false, and it condemns John to Hell. You comfortable with that?

Also, Christ condemned the Samaritans for making the EXACT SAME MISTAKE when they interpreted Deuteronomy 4:2 the same way. They said there could be no more scripture and they were wrong. I don't know why so many people feel comfortable with restraining God to a little Catholic invention.

God doesn't change in my book (sound familiar?) so I see no reason to tell Him he may not continue scripture as He had from the beginning of time to the end of your Bible.

It also claims that the god of this earth has a physical body, while the Book of Mormon claims he is a spirit. Contradiction within the ranks? I think so.

What do you believe? Does God have a body?

The truth is offensive to many, luckily you have masterfully evaded all that falls into that category. You misunderstand the nature of God and the nature of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; but that is understandable. Everyone seems to believe all the crap that floats around about them because it sounds true and it appeals to our carnal nature.

Peace.
