How Many Here Attend Church?

I think it is okay for someone to stay home and focus on their religion if they can pay more attention to God at home than in Church. Every night, I have been following this meditation course study thing about focusing on life and what is really important. You won't be judged on your attendence record, but by how you have lived your life with others. Sadly many are confused on this!

I had to select "other" in this poll because I'm active in the Baha'i Faith and we don't have "churches" so I go to Baha'i Feasts every nineteen days and to the Baha'i Center with my son on Sunday mornings.

I do attend Church services now and then but don't take Communion. I think in the past year I've attended about maybe four services in other churches and a few prayer meetings.

I'm also active in inter-Faith activities and volunteer for a Pastoral Care Unit at the Hospital which is mostly Christian but they know I'm a Baha'i.

I haven't attended a church (except for weddings) in over 40 years. And I miss church about as much as I would miss an abscessed tooth.

A church requires only two or more... no building needed, but it can help to get everyone together, so we use it. I go to church at least 3 times a week, and study/pray pretty much every day.

The Temple of God is the human body...this is what the "temple not buit with hands" is.....

man needs no church.....a church is eusefu to some...but man needs no church...the entire planet is the house of God...his body is hte temple....

my church is the ground beneath my feet...the wind in my hair....the rain on my brow....the moon above..the sun below....and the stars a around......

Persoanlly I havent been inside a christian church for a service since Ronald Reagan was president.....

My "church" is a room in my home...where I often stand or sit naked around a candle/s.....

my actual chruch is the entire cosmos........

I worship at home every day and it may involve putting on some CD's and singing with them, reading the Bible or just meditating.

I go to Church most Sundays and it's not because I feel I have to but because I enjoy it. I enjoy the group worship of singing and praise and the pastor usually has a very pointed sermon. I think maybe he has a microphone in my home because it generally is about something I struggled with the previous week. If I don't go to church on Sunday, I usually get up early and start my day with the radio for an hour of praise worship, followed by an hour long service and then more (radio) bible teachings interspersed with song.

I look at Sunday as my "fill 'er up" day. The intense worship helps me get through a week of humanity's idea of fun and games.

Woo-hoo! I'd frubal you for that, Sir Frubalot, but, alas, I am not able to. So, in spirit, I frubal thee!

I stopped attending church for a while, due to major disillusionment with organized Christianity, and the inability to find a church that I felt comfortable at, but finally realized that I needed some sort of Christian fellowship and encouragement in order to spiritually 'survive.' So I finally found a Presbyterian church that just 'clicked' ( though I am not Presbyterian myself, or of any denomination ), and have been attending it now for a couple months. I feel like I have now become a more 'awakened' member of the organism called the Body of Christ. Which is what I should be!!

my faith doesn't really have any 'churches'. Our 'church' is everywhere around us.
sometimes I get together with friends for singing, drumming and just having a good time.
The closest thing I get to 'organized religion' is going to the odd Pow-wow. :jiggy:

no church for me. I do, however, attend FAVA (Freethinkers and Atheists of Virginia) meetings. And they are quite a hoot to attend.

I have found this discussion most interesting. It appears that "church" is basically what many want it to be. I find it hard to accept the premise that regular church attendance (assembly) is a non-essential. Not only did Jesus die for the church (Ephesians 5:25) we are specifically warned "not to forsake (literally "abandon") the assembly together" (Hebrews 10:25). To assemble to worship the true and living God is an honor not a burden. There is nothing like praying together, singing together, studying together, and taking the Lord's Supper together. If you think "home alone worship" or "nature worship" is sufficient, you don't serve the same God I do.

I voted "No", as I do so very occasionally. I have not been to church for perhaps a year. I think it indicative of the feeling of 'Theological freedom' (if that makes sense) that I have found on this forum - I think I saw Master Vigil's -Church needs no buildings. The Church for me has been unspoilt nature; a park, a woodland, where I can see nothing man-made.

I have found that the words "church" and the wiccan "coven" are identical. It means a gathering of like minded (basically)...So I suppose, in a sense, when I go to atheist meetings, you could call it a church or coven. When I voted no, I was thinking the classical "religious church"...the poll doesnt get very specific.

Same Idea different words I suppose.

The word "ekklesia" translated "church" means "called out." While there are a few instances in the New Testament where the word has reference to something other than a religious assembly, the general usage is that of those who have become members of the body of Christ, His Kingdom. I DOUBT THAT THE ORIGINAL QUESTION WAS INTENDED FOR ATHEISTS, R.J..

I can feel just as connected to God in nature which is more of his house than anything. I climb up a tree to the highest point I can and look through the branches into the sun. I find God there. Talking with my friends about philosophy in nature just walking around is like church to me. Understanding one another's hardships and trying to help the other while still enjoying the outdoors. Nature is the best place for me though.
