What did you want to be when you grew up?

So? What was it you dreamt of being when you grew up? Are you that now? Working towards that? Changed your mind completely? What are you now?

Of course, for our members who are still "growing up", what do you want to be?

I wanted to be a member of the clergy I just never imagined I would be a Buddhist member. Being a professor was not on the top of my list I just needed a job after being a member of the clergy didn't work out the way I thought it would in the USA but I have considered taking a year off here and going to work in a hospital in California for 1 year I understand they (Californians) are more opened minded to Buddhist clergy than Pennsylvanians.

Well, when I was a child I wanted to be a nurse or doctor or teacher. I also knew I wanted to go in the Navy. So I figured being an HM in the Navy would suit me. Unfortunately when I enlisted the HM rate was closed and I had scored so high on math and electronics that I kind of got shuffled into Avionics instead.

I have since been "shuffled" into many jobs and career options I never considered. :p I guess I go with the flow now.

I wanted to be a nurse.
I did the second best thing and became a care nurse for a while and will go back in a couple of years.

No, got out almost ten years ago. I actually loved my time in. Wouldn't trade the experiences and the people I met for the world. I only got out (honorably at my EAOS) for reasons of certain family obligations. If those certain obligations hadn't been an issue, I probably would have stayed in. I quite miss it.

As for why the Navy...I guess it was just instilled in me. My father, both grandfathers, all my uncles (both sides) telling of their Navy experiences kind of drew me in. Just the kind of person I was when young also just led everyone to believe that it is where I would go.

Done here.
I went through phases when I wanted to be a fireman; maybe most boys do. Most of the time I wanted to be either a minister :)eek:) or a teacher. I eventually became a teacher of sorts, but I think the minister thing is out the window. :)

I wanted to be one of those mean teachers that cracks the pointing stick at the kids and tells them to put thier heads on their desks even when they weren't doing anything wrong. I'm not like that anymore

A comic book artist or a songwriter. I was supposed to go to the Joe Kubert's School of Graphic Design which is a 3 year course in New Jersey that dealt specifically with sequential art and animation but my family couldn't afford to send me and I would have had to dorm there.

The songwriter afforded me some opportunity as I have participated in a few bands and have entertained people for money but it was always "icing" on the cake and always took a backseat to my career in toll collecting (which was never on my list of things to do).

I had one of those in first grade! Old lady who yelled at you and sentenced you to detention for coughing loudly because she claimed you did it on purpose and other such nonsense. Half the class would be staying up to a half hour after school everyday. Parents would be lined up along the playground waiting for the kids to get out of detention. I, and the rest of the class, had detention on average of at least 3 times a week. My mom, along with the other moms, hated that woman.

When I was ten, I was an avid watcher of the TV show Emergency (that tells my age, doesn't it, lol) I told everyone I wanted to be a paramedic. When I was a teenager I wanted to either be a writer or a astronomer (I love looking at stars and planets). I became none of those.

I am a musician.

Still maybe before I die my brother might teach me to fly a small craft?
Nah. At this point I'd rather just sit back and enjoy the ride I think. :D
