I don't believe there is any evidence to suggest demons exist. Naturally we have been told by fundies that demons inhabit our house! Well if that is the case they are welcome!

Ghosts are the spirits of people. The astral bodies of people. The embodied soul. The energy of their essence. I don't know quite how else to describe them. What are you looking for and how do you mean "fit into the context of religion"? I've already covered that I thought. Or are you looking for a specific religion's answer?

Many times, if told they are wrong, and given a natural explanation, they defend their original belief.
Do ghosts exist? In some people's minds, they do. Best way to keep ghosts away, oddly, is to try and get hard evidence for them.

I thought so too until the weird stuff happened over and over, and not just to me. I also had a shared experience with someone else. Sometimes dismissing stuff to an active imagination just doesn't work.

As I don't believe in them, it matters not. Anyway they are less scary than some fundies I have met!

Luke 24:37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38 He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have." NIV
Other than that, there are no other references except in the OT where it is translated as "ghostlike". Perhaps they knew what ghosts looked like?
To be sure, I have had two instances where I came into contact with the unexplained. The latter one was just a few years ago and was quite unnerving. I must say, that I did not believe in ghosts until THEN, and even now I am not so sure.

There is no essence seperate from the body, when the body dies, that's it, you cannot prove otherwise.

people who have had OBEs would probably disagree with you that existence ends when the body dies. sure, their testimony is not something you should base your life and beliefs off, but their experiences are proof for them.

No OBE experiences have been scientifically verified, in fact, the opposite is true, the experiences can be entirely reproduced with drugs.
