I work with the mentally ill. My kindness makes them feel loved and makes them
feel like they have a place in this sometimes horrible world. My kindness just
comes from the heart. I hand out kindness so much that I forget about me.
To me, others are imporant. I come last.
That's lovely, but you cannot always 'come last' - you must must have time for ' You'; my time for 'me' is here on R.F. I truly believe I was 'led' here.:)

I often go shopping on a Saturday; where I park the car there is an area where vagrants tend to 'hang around'. they always ask for money, and I have to be tough on myself to resist the temptation to give them some; I have often seen them run into the nearest bar with the money....
My wife would say"There, I told you so"; even the police advise people not to give them money.
One particular morning, I was stopped by a guy, who asked for money as usual.
I asked him if he was hungry, and he told me he was; I told him I would take him to a cafe to buy him a hot meal. To my surprise, he said "I'd better not ; I'm here with another guy who has just gone off for a few minutes".
I assumed he was politely telling me that he was only interested in cash, and I told him that I'd be half an hour or so.
When I came back, he was still there; he let me take him to the cafe, and I sat and chatted to him while he ate a hearty meal.
My faith was restored.:)

Andra130,

So glad you asked what random acts of kindness have been done to us.

I have been without a car for seven years, and that was fine for me, as everything I need is right in town, within walking distance. Suddenly the grocery store I shopped at closed and I had to walk approximately 23 long blocks to get to the food store and then walk back uphill. It had become too much for me and I realized I had to get a car because I have a dog, five cats outside that I take care of, but mostly for the rabbit who needs fresh greens and carrots every day.
I won't go into complete detail but, I saw a car in the neighborhood and tried to get it. Little did I know that the people who were selling it were my friends who had helped me get the stray cats fixed. They wanted eight hundred dollars for this fifteen yr. old car and I felt blessed to get it at that price. Then the wife called out from the kitchen, " No, mom said seven hundred for her. I was delighted! After I had purchased it something wonderful happened. I came home from shopping one day and the woman friend pulled up behind me. She handed me an envelope and said since the car needed muffler work, mom, (who owned the car) wanted to give me two hundred dollars towards the cost. I was flabbergasted! I tried to give her back the money, because I told her that I had gone to the mechanic just that morn and he said I don't need the work until August 2005 when the inspection was due. She wouldn't hear of it. So I got this car for $500.00. Incredible! Who the heck does that??? It blew me away.
There are many other things, but I will leave room for others to respond.

I'm inspired! Good work everyone!

It seems to me that no matter how small or seemingly insignificant the good deed, it makes a world of difference to the person you're doing it to. Example: about a year ago, I was on dish duty at a camp (the kids who got scholarships had to do the dishes a couple times), and they were stacking up rather quickly, since the person assigned to work with me didn't show. So this one kid whom I didn't even know that well came up and helped me finish. Now that I think about it, this was actually closer to two years, and I still remember it, even though it involved relatively little effort on his part.

Something my friend and I like to do is make top ten lists. Every once in a while, when one of our friends is feeling down, we make a list of this person's 'top ten' qualities and give it to them. We use markers and add in personal jokes and stuff...and it's so much fun to see how happy you can make a person by doing this! I went to the house of the first person we did this to recently, and she had her list taped up in her room next to her mirror. It was pretty awesome to see!

That is actually a really good idea!! It's one thing to give money but something else to really show that person how valuable they are.:162:

I finally found time for myself. I get together with a friend every Friday to do ceramics. We stay there for a couple of hours and is pretty much our get together away from our over-loaded work. I also take time for myself and type on RF.
