Babylon the Great is the entire world empire of false religion. She includes all religions that preserve the religious teachings and practices of ancient Babylon and that manifest her spirit.
And I heard another voice out of heaven say: Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues." (Revelation 18:4) so Gods people are told to get out of her, why?
Jehovahs judgment of Babylon the Great is final: "And a strong angel lifted up a stone like a great millstone and hurled it into the sea, saying: Thus with a swift pitch will Babylon the great city be hurled down, and she will never be found again." (Revelation 18:21) so do we want to be a part of babylon the great when she is completly destroyed by God. or have we got out of her ?

The entire chapter of Revelations 17 talks about her. There is much speculation that this was a reference to Rome (seven hills, etc), which like Babylonis of old controlled much of the world at that time.
Honestly, Revelations makes me very uneasy. I understand so little of it, and know much of what I THINK I understand is pure conjecture. I abhor conjecture.

"The great harlot"! Why so shocking a designation? Who is she? Some have identified this symbolic harlot with ancient Rome. But Rome was a political power. This harlot commits fornication with the kings of the earth, and this evidently includes the kings of Rome. Besides, after her destruction, "the kings of the earth" are said to mourn her passing. Therefore, she cannot be a political power. (Revelation 18:9, 10) Additionally, since she is mourned also by the worlds merchants, she could not picture big business. (Revelation 18:15, 16) We read, however, that by her spiritistic practice all the nations were misled. (Revelation 18:23) This makes it clear that the great harlot must be a worldwide religious entity

I am taking a class under E. Earle Ellis, an 80+ year old world-class NT scholar. He confessed to the class that he does not yet understand Revelation.
John himself did not explain the book to his disciple Polycarp, so I submit that the true meaning of the book will be a mystery until the last day.

One of my favorite quotes came from a class on Revelations... the instructor was discussing the various theories for the "reign". The mellenial theory, the bimillenial theory, etc... and told us that he was a STRONG advocate of the Panellenial Theory. It's all going to PAN out just the way God intended no matter HOW he try to force an interpretation on it.
It was at Babylon, more than 4,000 years ago that Jehovah confused the tongues of the would be builders of the Tower of Babel. The different language groups were scattered to the ends of the earth, taking with them the apostate beliefs and pratices that are the basis of most religions today(Genesis 11;1-9)Babylon the great is the religious part of satans organization

Here's a pretty good article about the subject..... it relates with an anti-Catholic book calling the RCC "The Whore of Babylon".... but it gives a lot of good info on the topic as well (IMO)
