If atheism is a 'lack of a position', then it can't be the default position

Yes that is the problem with comparing the two dichotomies. Theism/atheism is a statement on belief. Civilian/Servicemen is a statement of social designation. There is no way of making the civilian/servicemen dichotomy a statement of belief. That was the point i was trying to make They are...

If atheism is a 'lack of a position', then it can't be the default position

If the meaning of civilian is a human being who is not in the military. Then yes. For atheism/theism to be the same as civilian/servicemen then civilian would have to be defined as a person who does not accept that they are in the military. Until such time as that is the definition of...

If atheism is a 'lack of a position', then it can't be the default position

I've always had an issue with the point that all babies are atheists. Newborns are incapable of considering the question of theism. So in a sense they are atheists. But it is as meaningless as saying a rock is an atheist.

If atheism is a 'lack of a position', then it can't be the default position

It is an interesting quirk of the way the words are created. The default position of the claim of theism is that you reject the positive assertion that there is some form of theistic entity until satisfactory evidence is provided. In a way a-theism is also the rejection of the positive claim...

    Isn’t Atheism a faith-based non-religion?

In relationship to my atheism the only thing i really have faith in are the logical absolutes. I am more than happy to discuss rationally, openly and honestly how the logical absolutes are flawed if you would like.

Atheists don't like the idea of a laissez-faire God....

This is great. But not exactly consistent. He says that he does not accept it. Then goes on to say he could be persuaded. Which one is it? He also says deism is watered down theism (elsewhere though). Of which he is completely dismissive of. Yes. One could say that Krauss is a...

Honestly i'd be shocked if SS didn't reply with sarcasm. It's part of his formidable charm.

Atheists don't like the idea of a laissez-faire God....

Quotes please. I'm sorry can you pleased rephrase this question. As it is, it is unintelligible.

Nah deism uses the same type of arguments as theism. By no means an issue for atheists.

    Faith versus Reasonable Expectation

I have heard this argument before. It is indeed two different uses of the word faith. If walking on a solid surface was the same type of faith then we would try and walk on the surface, fall through and then blame the fall on just not believing enough.

Is science based on circular reasoning?

I wonder if he is willing and able to to supply something else on which we should base science on.
