      Talking of hard Gs, the french language is a real pain... Gs are soft except when they are not. I was pronouncing the name of a close by village called La Roque Gageac wrong for years, the first g is hard the second soft.

        I sometimes mispronounce words in other languages on purpose among family members. My sister is fluent in French so discussing cooking one time with her I told her how I started out with a mire poix (using the English pronunciation for a swamp followed by "poiks"). She knew that I was murdering French but she did not know the term even after I spelled it out for her. I taught her some French!
