    Is spreading your religion correct?

Have you seen this first hand? I have 3 sons who served missions in countries with high poverty rates. They saw lives changed. They saw men give up alcohol and devote themselves to their families. They saw marriages improve. They saw improvement in cleanliness and living standards. They...

    Is spreading your religion correct?

Is spreading your religion correct? For Christians, yes. It's a commandment from Christ. However, no one is obligated to listen. Is introducing a vaccine to a third world country, an imposition? When you have something you see as life-saving, are you morally obligated to share it? Or at...

    Draper Temple Open House

I'm sure it is beautiful. I wish I could attend the open house. I've been curious about one thing. I see the Draper temple in the news hear and there. It was featured on ABC and others. The latest thing is about the need for workers to staff it. I never heard anything about the Twin Falls...

Amen. Thank you; it was beautifully said.

    What does it take?

Hi Luminous, Are you LDS? If not, the answer to your question is long, I'm afraid. In a nutshell, it takes total commitment. It takes a lot of time and sacrifice. It is a full-time religion. However, the rewards are endless. Being LDS has brought me every good thing in my life--literally. The...

    Sister Beck came to Seattle

I am not voicing an opinion on whether to delay children or not. Of course that's none of my business. The point I made was that what Sis. Beck said, as I said in the above post, is seconded by others. She's repeating counsel that was very prevelant 30+ years ago. This is what we were told...

    Sister Beck came to Seattle

Calm down. I'm merely saying that what she said is just what others have said before her. It's nothing new and any criticism of her words must extend to them also. I have a great deal of respect for Sis. Beck and will continue to defend her. Sorry to have upset you, but I guess that's...

    Sister Beck came to Seattle

Sis. Beck said nothing different than what prophets have said. Elder Ezra Taft Benson "The world teaches birth control. Tragically, many of our sisters subscribe to its pills and practices when they could easily provide earthly tabernacles for more of our Father’s children. We know that every...

    Are Fathers Expendable?

I agree. Boys WILL look for role models. Just as with Barak Obama. He chose his minister. Too often the choice is bad, as in gangs. But dads are important for girls as well. Girls without fathers more often seek "father figures" in emotional relationships, which is potential disaster. They...

    Are Fathers Expendable?

Fair enough. You are male and would know better than I. Thanks.

    Are Fathers Expendable?

It may appear that way. I just singled out that one aspect of parenting for this thread. Of course all those qualities are important. And they can all be learned from a father along with from the mother. And the child learns that all those qualities can be found in men as well as in women.

    Are Fathers Expendable?

So sad. Your father was not what you needed. You seem focused on affluence. I don't think money has much to do with fathering a child. My dad never had any money and left me with nothing material; only memories of his love and committment.

    Are Fathers Expendable?

In my opening post, I asked to not bring disfunctional parents into the discussion. This is because disfunction comes in every shape and size, not just in fathers. It's not fair to compare lousy fathers with wonderful uncles, older brothers, grandparents, teachers, etc. I'm talking about GOOD...

    Are Fathers Expendable?

I could have included the relevance of mothers, but chose not to because it appears that there are far more woman/woman couples choosing to raise children, than man/man. I could be wrong. But in all fairness, you are free to substitute the word mother, for the word father, in this thread. I'm...
