    The Vulnerability Inside

Well I do see it as a beautiful act, therefore the opposite I would find revolting. Like you said, it's a matter of opinion, therefore I will entertain that opinion and like minds There is no right or wrong here, and I don't think this is a debate forum. So to each his own

    World sacred texts and literalism

After the previous rabbit hole I took the thread down I noticed there was some unfinished notes I think it is all dependent on the individual. If one so chooses they can rise above and choose to digest the information provided them. As far as literal/metaphorical internalization of text, it...

    Purification

I've done many herbal purification rituals, as well as the 9-day process that Troublemane mentioned. I use a lot of Sage.....actually my apartment is inundated with sage at the moment....makes me feel squeaky clean lol. I also do a lot of meditation and focused intent (i.e. bathing will...

    the word God

I use the word God because of convenience. Although, When speaking in a forum such as this, or that of my peers or something like that, I try to stay as specific as possible. In most cases I use deity as a form of collective god, divine energy in a sense. The problem with "God" is that it...

Roal/No*s Canon and Authority in Early Christianity

I most certainly do accept, albeit with a few modifications of the nature of what I said in the previous forum. 1) Pertaining to the Gnostic Gospels, I did correct "removed" to "excluded" in the sense that they were not included in the Canon. I will compile a few of those exclusions and the...

    World sacred texts and literalism

I suppose we could replace "remove" with "excluded". The point is that the church decided to deem some Christian text as Orthodox while others as not. Therefore the church decided what it's subject could "read" and what it could not, limiting the masses to a presupposed set of Christian doctrine...

    Adam-death-ant-flower

Then why did God give the possibility of eating. "you can eat this but you can't eat that. If they did not need to eat then there would be no desire to eat, therefore no temptation to eat the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This brings up another good point. What about animals where the...

    World sacred texts and literalism

I think it would be wonderful, I just don't think it is feasible. There will always be those that will use knowledge to demean and subjugate. It is human nature to use things for control, and the only way to do that is to simplify (or literalize) the information to make it digestible to the layman.

    World sacred texts and literalism

I suppose "vast changes" as far as Constantine is concerned was a bit of a misnomer on my part. I was more referring to the use of the text for political gain. Constantine was originally pagan but used Christianity to unify the empire. While some say he converted to Christianity on his...

    World sacred texts and literalism

I wish I had the luxury, which is why my last post was from my own experience. Where i currently live I am inundated with blind faith and an ultimate lack of true understanding. The majority of Christians that I know (and I use Christianity as my example because it makes up the majority of my...

    Religious Experience as Metaphor

Well since theophany is the physical appearance of diety, I'm sure Storm can be fairly certain. In fact theophany is used referring to the physical appearance of God in the Old Testament (i.e. Pillar of Fire, Burning Bush, etc) which are not dreams and quite literal, especially those shared...

    Religious Experience as Metaphor

Agreed, I see them as completely different. Or rather....A dream can be a mystical experience but they are not one in the same. Likewise not all dreams are mystical experiences. But then this constitutes some kind of hierarchy as to what is mystical and what is not, which is going to be...

    The Vulnerability Inside

As was mentioned before, my religion allows for sex to be something sacred, if not divine. So I am thankful for that. It does sadden me to see such a beautiful act cheapened to the level of triviality, almost making it a past-time.

    Religious Experience as Metaphor

I think it might be a little of both. We experience truth in religious experience but the understanding is metaphorical. Human beings are archetypal in their understanding of what they experience, but that does not make the event any less real. We create metaphors for everything. Even if it...
