  • At least with our ancestors, I think the idea that people originally were vegetarian was not a source of pride. Herding animals was considered a sign of civilization, of advancement, and eating meat a sign of prosperity and health.
OK, large-scale domestication of food animals coming late I can accept and believe. But that's a far cry from prior generations being vegetarians.
That seems like a difficult contention to support. Especially given large-scale organized agriculture isn't considered much older than around 10,000 years. I could believe no herding of domesticated meat animals, but no hunting or trapping, of any kind? Given that pretty much every pre-civilized group ever encountered at least supplements their diet with occasional game and fish.
I would also agree that humanity is inherently good; God did look at all of His creation, after all, and say that it was "very good." We just need some help in dealing with the not-so-good disease that began affecting us. :)
Pelagius goes too far in saying that we can save ourselves, by ourselves. In Orthodox Christianity, we hold that we cannot save ourselves by ourselves, and we need God's help, and it is God, not us, that makes the first move in our salvation. But our cooperation with God is also needed for our salvation. I think this is the position that the Anglicans are beginning to adopt as well. So, we Orthodox reject Pelagius as a heretic, but you could say that we're "semi-Pelagian" (whatever that means lol).
    Hey EP,

My family isn't okay with it, but they're dealing with it. Or at least trying to. It was pretty shocking thing to them. Friends on the other hand are totally alright with it.

I'm not really struggling all that much with it (besides with the family and the general feeling of being so much different than most people and what that entails), but it would (and will) produce much more problems in the future when considering my goals.
Aww thanks! I've been well; had a few things take me away from the forums for a bit but now I'm recovering and hope to be around more. I try to be as pragmatic as possible. Anger and defensiveness just isn't going to get anywhere. Thanks for the compliment! Hope you have been well also. :)
I think if Set were to take on human form he would take on primarily masculine traits, but he would more than likely be a bisexual male, as he does indeed Love both his male and female disciples.
