Do Your Beliefs Match Those of Your Significant Other?

I answered "I am religious, my partner is not" - in that this whole God thing is important to me but it doesn't interest him at all. However, because I don't have a dogma that I feel like I have to defend, my spiritual searching doesn't cause any conflict. We are both ex Jehovah's...

Is Setianism an expression of Thelema?

I have nothing to add and know that I could just click the "subscribe to thread" button without saying anything, but decided instead to at least speak up and say that what both of you have said here interests me greatly. And with that I'll go back to lurking ...

    List 3 Favorite Movies

I still have not seen Crash. I really must rectify that. I've heard it's excellent.

    List 3 Favorite Movies

This is harder than I thought it would be ... In no particular order: 1) Contact 2) The Matrix - The first one only, not the sequels. 3) Finding Nemo I can watch those movies over and over because they speak to my life circumstances now (and in the past) in one way or another. I just don't...

    Atheism vs Theism

 I answered the poll as a "probable theist" (one of only 4 so far). I lean towards God existing, but my "theism" is of the sort you describe above. My only caveat is that I would call that pan-en-theism rather than pantheism, but basically that is semantics.

    Is "that" label Important?

I only use labels online and even then the labels change as I change, which seems to be constantly. :D

This Thread is a Gluten-Free Zone

I imagine you can be gluten intolerant and outgrow it, but you cannot outgrow true Celiac disease. It is an inherited, genetic auto-immune disease.

This Thread is a Gluten-Free Zone

There is a local bakery here in Utah called Charlotte's that makes a pretty good gluten free bread. I don't have celiac, but I've eaten Charlotte's rice bread a few times. Being local though I doubt you'll be able to find it where you live. :sorry1: I wonder if a health food store near you might...

What is the most ideal society humanity has known to date?

I imagine I heard it spoken when I was a baby (my Grandad was Norwegian), but nope, I never have. It does seem a tough language.

    The Random, Meaningless Announcements Thread!

I am trying to create a new avatar, but cannot make up my mind. Oh, and congrats to this random meaningless announcement thread that has gone on so long (though I notice that it's a chat thread more than a meaningless announcement thread). :D

What is the most ideal society humanity has known to date?

I haven't done any research to confirm this, but the first thing to pop into my mind when I read your question was modern Norway and Denmark. My understanding is the standard of living is high. They have great health (though that is changing) and healthcare. I think crime rates are some of the...

Religion is fascinating because its about people

Agreed. I think each person's views about God or 'ultimate reality' probably tell us more about the person than about God. That's not to say that a part of a particular view might not be correct, but I don't think that anyone's views about God are 100% correct. And I think that a person's...
