I graduated from Fordham College in 1964 with a B.S. in physics and from New York University in 1971 with a Ph.D. in physics. I am offering to give lessons/lectures about the Shroud of Turin, evolutionary biology, and the arguments for God's existence with this message:
Three Speaker Proposals About Science and Religion by David Roemer, Ph.D. ([email protected])
Developmental Lesson on Why People Believe God Caused the Big Bang.
Talk Description: I will give a developmental lesson on the arguments for God’s existence. I will explain the difference between the metaphysical arguments (free will, morality) and the scientific arguments (Big Bang, fine-tuning of constants). I will use the concept of cognitive dissonance to explain why many people find the scientific arguments persuasive.
Additional materials needed: Copies of the document at: http://www.newevangelization.info/fifteen/al-jahiz.html
Notes: My correspondence about this matter is at http://www.newevangelist.me. I submitted an article about this to the Review of Metaphysics, edited by Elizabeth Shaw, on October 2015.
Slideshow/lecture on Science, Metaphysics, Philosophy, History, and Theology of the Shroud of Turin
Talk Description: My slideshow/lecture argues that the best explanation for the Shroud of Turin is that Gnostics created it in the 1st or 2nd century using methods that have been lost to history. I will also argue the Shroud of Turin is a reason to believe in Jesus because there is no explanation for how the body image and blood stains on the cloth were created.
Additional materials needed: Projector, transcripts of the slideshow to be given to participants, and a copy of the article with the same title.
Notes: The slideshow is at http://www.holyshroud.info, my correspondence with the Catholic Church is at http://www.dkroemer.com, and the article is at https://shroudofturin.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/roemer.pdf. I submitted the article to a conference on the Shroud of Turin sponsored by the Italy Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The article was rejected, and I filed an ethics complaint with the IEEE against the Italy Section. The IEEE withdrew its sponsorship of the conference.
Developmental Lesson on Pseudoscience in the American Journal of Physics
Event Description: I will give a developmental lesson on why the AJP should retract the peer-reviewed article below about biological evolution. If it is retracted, the public will know how irrational the scientific establishment in the United States can be.
Additional materials needed: Copies of “Entropy and evolution,” (Am. J. Phys., Vol. 76, No. 11, November 2008) and the document at: http://www.newevangelization.info/fifteen/al-jahiz.html
Notes: My correspondence about the AJP article is at http://www.pseudoscience123. com. I published the following paper about this scandal at https://www.academia.edu/20939526/An_Analogy_Between_Nazi_Germany_and_the_United_States
