    Satanist groups reinforcing stereotypes?

Satanism is a religion with values, ethics, and aesthetics, atheism is not. You are oversimplifying things. And Satanism has nothing to do with not letting people boss you around; sometimes it's appropriate to be "bossed around" by someone more capable than yourself, in certain contexts. There...

    Pre-judging

People don't do research on subjects they don't care about and will generally judge a group based on 1. Other people in the group that they've seen and 2. What they've heard. I don't like thinking about prejudice I get as a Satanist because I hate people who play the victim. If you're going to...

I suppose I can see why that would make some people disenchanted; thank you for posting that.

Animosity between Church of Satan members and "other types of Satanism"

I'm not against any religion per se. People will choose religions that work with their own natures and needs. What I am against are what I view as religious values being secularized and incorporated into law.

Animosity between Church of Satan members and "other types of Satanism"

That's all well and good but the entire point of this thread is that there is no such thing as "other kinds of Satanism" to any relevant degree, and that anyone else's claim to the contrary is lacking in merit.

    In case you missed it..

I'm not too hung up on the debate; people will think the way they think and it's usually not easy or worth the effort to try changing them. The Church of Satan has fought hard over the years to create a credible image of itself, and people who want to hop on the Satanism bandwagon while muddling...

Animosity between Church of Satan members and "other types of Satanism"

Wrong! Satanism and faith in an external deity are mutually exclusive :ignore:

Animosity between Church of Satan members and "other types of Satanism"

One of the few things that Satanists have in common with Catholics is our disdain of the public school system. Since you hinted at going to a private Catholic school you may find this interesting :) Mandatory Education: Teaching Pigs To Sing

Animosity between Church of Satan members and "other types of Satanism"

No, when LaVey chose Satan as his symbol he did it because he despised the influence Christian churches had on culture and the backward view on human nature that came with it; when he worked in a carnival he wrote about how "Men would watch the women dance in their hula-hula dances with their...

    What if you're a Masochist?

I understood what he was asking, just not why he asked it :) Yeah, if you want to be in jail or dead, especially if you act that nonsense out in Texas. If some gun nut will kill some kids for stealing his Twinkies, then you know you're not gonna have much wiggle room.

http://www.religiousforums.com/forum/same-faith-debates/81468-animosity-between-church-satan-members-other.html Kinda bummed nobody from this part of the forums has popped in to rebuke me. If you can't, we can still have a baby-impaling competition to determine who gets to call themselves...

Animosity between Church of Satan members and "other types of Satanism"

Keep in mind that this is my own interpretation of Satanism; I don't represent the Church of Satan and I am not an authorized agent or anything like that. If you must have it boiled down, it's atheism but acknowledging the tendency in human beings for religious thinking, feeling, and behavior...

    Some thoughts...

Sure that sounds like it'd be perdy cool maaaan Did you wait to tell her you were into a kinda "spooky" religion until you knew you were moving in together? It's not the first time I've heard of Satanists having to be all sneaky with their other half :)
