      fyi: i am sensitive about jews being counted... reminds me of when we were numbered... if you can make your point without the pew study, I would appreciate it. but i won't criticize you for using it.
      spiritually, there's a midrash about counting and measuring, i can try to find it if you're interested.

        This is reflected in many congregations. The famous quorum of 10 is tallied by counting hats, coats, anything but the people themselves. For support in the Torah, it's in ex 30:11, the part about avoiding a plague.
