A Dark Night of the Soul can refer to any spiritual crises but more specifically describes a prolonged spiritual crises that generates painful levels of self-doubt about the inherent value of both the person in crises and her or his spiritual beliefs.

When people are working on their spiritual growth, confusing and sometimes obstructive factors WILL arise which MIGHT block further progress and may POTENTIALLY cause a spiritual crisis.

Mystics (for whom spiritual or transcendent experiences might usually arise naturally and spontaneously) may also suffer a spiritual crises if there are extended, uncontrollable stoppages in mystic occurrences and connections.

Master Meditators in many different religions who have worked through their own Dark Nights of the Soul are a valuable resource in solving a problem that spans all boundaries and all times.

These classic reference books mentioned in this video transcend the religion of their authors and describe profound experiences shared by mystics from many different religions, times, and places -- including personal accounts and advice about Dark Nights of the Soul that are remarkably similar in many details.
