If I was a Christian it is people like that who would cause me great embarrassment not a small marble willy.
Actually, they should only complain about cultural accuracy. It is indeed difficult to imagine a non-circumsided king of the Jews.

Whenever I see such statues, I am shocked by how divinely great these artists were.

Once I learnt to sculpt marble and limestone. It is the most complex thing I can think of.

And by the way, art portrays beauty. As John Keats used to say, Truth is Beauty and Beauty is Truth.

Blush - All the years that I have known about this statue and I never thought of that.

You don't find artists like that anymore.

In Florence this high statue is located in the most important square where anyone, even children go for a walk.

My country is filled with statues portraying nude characters from mythology.
Does it mean we are a porn country? ;)

(yes we are)...lol
My wife grew if in a small one-room house in Sicily, thus it was all out in plain view and sound.

Actually the statue is in the accademia gallery. The one in Piazza della Signoria is a copy. Just in case you want the original and not the fake.

That is one if the things i love about italy
Everywhere you go, turn a corner walk into a square there is art.

Yes, similar for me, three generations in a small two bedroomed house. That was quite normal. That was city life. We all saw our younger male relatives running around naked. It was common to see dogs mating in the street too.
I don't think the OP's case is just down to Christianity. It seems to be a merger with modern sanitized society.

I think this is quintessential Christian. Anglican Christian too, if you notice the tactical picture on the BBC.

What do you think?

I remember not to long ago a copy of David was shown in Dubai... Just the chest up, the lower regions were covered from sight. So not only Christian, it seems Muslim's too need to be protected from art.

. . . But it's unsettling that you were so fixated on it that you noticed a nuance that suggests of quasi-pornographic interest, focus, and examination.

Btw, Moses had to be threatened before he was circumcised. And in some senses David is more Trumpian than Moses. I can imagine David keeping every little bit of an organ he never took for granted. Just ask Bathsheba. She would know.
