Six dead in California home shooting, including 6-month-old baby and her mother

However why is it being called a "massacre" "execution" and "shooting" but not a "mass shooting"?
Does it matter? Six more people are dead, including children, and it'll be quickly brushed aside for the next, and the next, and the next, ad infinitum. Thoughts and prayers, but nothing more. It doesn't matter what it's called at this point.

It's amazing how desensitized we've become as a nation. Amazing and sad

Sad that this happened.

It seems I reached my limit of free articles on Reuters, so I found another link: 2 men are arrested in a California shooting that killed 6 people : NPR

But I would say "massacre" would be an accurate term to describe this horrific event. The article mentioned that it was gang-related, which are often treated differently than the "lone nut" mass killings we've seen. Those tend to have more of a sensationalistic approach, whereas gang killings are just ordinary, mundane, everyday events, just like traffic accidents. Although it appears this one was grisly enough to get attention.

Perhaps it's explained by different circumstances.
Excerpted...
Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux linked the killings to the illegal drug trade, saying deputies had conducted a drug-related search warrant at the same home last week.
"We believe this was a message being sent," Boudreaux told reporters at the scene. "We believe that this was a targeted family."

Probably because it does strongly appear to be a mob hit. That's not a run of the mill mass shooting but an entirely different category involving not someone may be psychologically distressed and broken, it's not a heat of the moment shooting, these are trained killers who have killed before and will kill again if given a reason. They probably didn't use mass shooting because that's something many people could potentially be under a lot of bad circumstances and stress, but very few can kill as these people did.
