What are some easy ways to check for electrical leakage?

Sometimes I will touch a lightswitch and get a little shock. It's from all around my house so I don't think it is an electrical leakage, plus it is also dry in my house so it's likely static electricity. Anyways, I want to be on the safe side sometimes (I know you distinguish static vs current electricity is by the pain level, but I think a light current shock would feel very similar to a very high static shock and sometimes it's hard to tell)

Nope. They feel much different.

Even a low current shock still feels like a longer buzzing/burning pain. Static shock is sharp and fast, even if it hurts.

Easy way to check for electrical leakage: switch off or unplug all appliances. Look at your meter.

Hmm, okay. I was hoping there would be a device of some sort that acts similar to a heat detector.

Bonus question: Would you see blue lightning if it were just static? And would the leak go through all lightswitches? Also, I don't get electrocuted when I touch the lightswitch it's just that initial shock.

Head to your breaker box and watch the numbered meter inside. You should see this ticking over.

Now turn your main breaker off in the box, shutting off electricity to your home. This meter should stop when the breaker is turned off. If it’s still running, something is still drawing power and will need to be investigated.

Panic! Your home is possessed!

Walking near the electrical towers as a professor human did that stated power is held not really insulated and see a light globe light up. Proving insulation doesn't really hold it.

To know by study humans living near those towers gained cancer from just a small leakage.

Proving to machine minds we don't own bio electricity only invention does.

As all man's inventive terms how to get electricity and how to check it is by invention.

Old school: grab a fluorescent tube, turn off all the lights, and walk around your house carrying the fluorescent tube and see if it starts to glow.

I have seen it where the electricians have wired the electrical outlets wrong.
Basically the ground in your house could have a voltage potential on it if wired wrong.
If you are really worried, you could have a professional electrician look at it.

Most companies will provide a free quote but shouldn't cost more than a few hundred dollars.

Nope.
When you cut the current, there can't be any leakage. But when there is leakage, switching off individual fuses can help to locate the problem.

I don't know what they're called, but it's a pen-like tool that measures electrical currents and beeps when near a "hot" source
Technically they are called "Hall sensors" but they are never marketed under that name. You'll find something like a "cable and pipe finder" in your hardware store for about $ 10.

I'm actually for calling an exorcist (with an electrical tool set, hopefully). :p

Outa here... bye-bye!

There is. Go to the hardware store, electrical isle.

There will be a thing that just looks like a plug. It's got neon bulbs.

It will be called a 'ground fault detector'

Also, you'll see a neon bulb in a case with two leads with contacts.
This will be considerably cheaper and belongs in every toolbox.
Probably need to look at youtube videos if the instructions are unclear.

Or, you can contact an electrician, tell him you suspect a faulty ground.

(this thread is good for lols, OMG I'm gonna not catch my breath... Bwaaaahahahaha)
