Russia has violently cracked down on protests imprisoning thousands of its own citizens. They have forced hundreds of thousands more to serve in a foreign war.

Shouldn’t the U.S. do something about this?

America's general practice since WW2 has been to only attack countries which have no chance and no capability of mounting any real defense, other than underground, guerilla warfare, such as in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan. Russia is not one of those countries, though American troops would definitely face some fierce opposition from both the military and civilian population.

For a German soldier in WW2, being sent to the Russian Front was tantamount to a death sentence.

Of course, any hint of US troops preparing for invasion would likely push an already unstable Putin over the edge and could likely cause him to push the nuclear button. Not a good idea.

We have not sent any armed force to do anything in Russia.

Its a very large version of Alaska. Why would we want to invade? I cannot imagine a reason. Do they have copper mines? No. They have nothing that we would need. They may have something that China needs or that Europe needs, but we don't. Also we are far, far away. It is expensive and inconvenient to invade them. Let them be. We have plenty of wheat, and we have temperate climate. We can make our own vodka, too. Let them make theirs.

There is no way to conquer Russia without violating the Geneva Convention. We would either have to slaughter a great number, or we would have to both deport and import a great number and force intermarriage of millions of people. We'd have to wipe out the Russian culture. It would simply not work. It also would go against the concept of our own country, so it would weaken us. So only if they declare war on us can such a thing be possible and even then it is going to scare the hell out of our allies. We don't want to be called bloody or conquerors.

We also have Russian people who live here and are citizens here. We even have Russian Orthodox churches. These also would cause us problems were we to attempt to conquer Russia. I'm not saying we couldn't handle them. We could, but it would not be very acceptable to the public here.

Actually, Russia does have copper mines, but they're apparently having trouble selling their copper to other countries.

"And having successfully enacted regime change in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya without any negative consequences, we saw no reason to refrain from doing likewise in Russia. They will welcome us with flowers and there is absolutely no way it can come back to haunt us..."

American military aggression tends to only recognize power and geopolitical interests, not ethics or concern for human rights. Since Russia has a nuclear arsenal massive enough to end civilization as we know it, and since its military is one of the most powerful in the world, I doubt the US will be invading Russia anytime soon, if ever.

The heroics and theatrics of the US toward Taiwan are also presented by American officials as concern for "independence and democracy," but history tells us that geopolitics again underlies the White House's policies. And make no mistake: the US won't even try to start a war with China as long as the latter remains such a significant global power. Military and economic might speak the language that American policy understands most.

Invading Russia, history shows us that is very difficult to do and win, and pretty much impossible during the winter as it was too harsh and severe even for tweaker Nazis.
