Gnocchi Tonight

I have an over supply of cherry tomatoes from the garden so I'm using todays lot to make a sauce for gnocchi. I'm slowly cooking them down with some onion, garlic, salt and pepper, and a dash of balsamic vinegar. The gnocchi is just store bought because I'm too lazy to make my own.

Gnocchi tonight, don't talk about tomorrow
Gnocchi tonight, don't feed me any sorrow
One night's all we got and then I'm gone yeah
Gnocchi tonight, don't ever try to stop it
Gnocchi tonight, I'll be gone before you know it
Maybe I'll be back before too long

My apologies to Head East.

The tomatoes look great. Cherry tomatoes can be such amazing flavor bombs. I have had gnocchi only a couple of times at best. I need to learn how to make it, it seems that it may be one of the easiest pastas to make at home.

It's pretty simple, mashed potato and flour. Roll it in a tube then cut it. Even easier if you buy the ready made stuff from the supermarket but not as nice.

If you have a decent deli nearby (I have two!) you can pay a little extra and have the best of both worlds.

Have to say I've never made gnocchi, though I do quite like them. I believe you can also make them with semolina. I remember being given them when I once went to see my friend Lucy at Bristol university. She had made them herself.

That was in 1972, when such things were considered very daring and exotic in Britain!

Maybe I should have a go. After all, I have now learnt to make my own pesto and my own hummous, both of which are definitely superior to the bought stuff.

My ex-mother-in-law (Italian) use to get Gnocchi from an old Italian guy that made them, Then she would cook the Gnocchi and make the sauce.... it was delicious....have not had Gnocchi in years...

Nothing around here, they even closed the Coles deli. I can't remember the last time I saw a privately owned one, they were all over the place years ago. Another victim of the supermarket age I guess.

Depends where you live. Definitely still a thing in parts of Melbourne. Hipsters love em...lol

Freeze some, have it at a later date. You will not get as fed up with it.

I think that freezing tomato sauce intensifies the flavour.

I agree. When I make a big pot of chili I always freeze some. It has a better taste after its thawed.

Daughter didn't know of any but I found one in Newcastle with a google search, well I found two but I think the 2nd one has the word delicatessen mixed up with cafe. There appears to be none in Maitland or Port Stephens unless you count butchers who say they have a deli section.

Wow...I live in Eltham in Melbourne, I can walk to multiple independent delis and green grocers.
I guess you'll need to move here.
