I usually fall asleep in the recliner watching tv. I usually turn the tv off and just stay in the recliner because I'm too lazy to get up and go to bed. So I often wake up in the recliner between 2:00-3:00 am. The other night I remember waking up with something passing over me. It was as if a white sheer window curtain was blowing over me from an open window. The thing is, the window next to my recliner was closed (it's January in NJ!). But it was much wispier than a curtain ... somewhere between a curtain and fog. It hovered for a bit and then passed to my left. I wasn't frightened, I was startled and annoyed. It was more annoying than anything, as if you walk into a spider web and it covers your face. So, I don't know, maybe it was just a kooky dream.

Reminds me of something that happened to me years ago. I was just chilling in my room with the lights off. I got thirsty, though, so I stood up and went to turn the light on so I could see where I was going. The light I had in my room at that time was the kind where you pull a metal chain that hangs from a fan, so that's what I did. As I did so, I found that I wasn't in my room at all. I was in some kind of ornately decorated victorian room. I was super confused how I had gotten there, and I was feeling freaked out. The room then started to warp and twist around me, and that's when I realised I wad asleep and dreaming, so I made myself wake up

When I did wake up, I found that I had fallen asleep sitting up, just chilling in my room. I couldn't say when I had fallen asleep, but that dream felt real up until the time I had woken up. Very vivid

I've had a couple of "dreams" that were not ordinary dreams but were real. I write that because of feeling that accompanied them, the last emotional impression they made on me and that the memory persisted just like an everyday meaningful event. That would be the first test I would apply if I had a dream like the one you did.

I've had stuff like that happen; carrying on conversations with people in the room...

Or so I thought. I was told I had been sleeping the whole time.

When I was a teen, I had posters hanging from strings on the ceiling(there were pictures on both sides). I had fallen asleep, and my mom shouted to me from upstairs. I had a sensation like I was 'crashing' back into my body... and all the posters were swishing and swaying like something of the sort had happened. No one else was in the basement. I thought that one was very strange...

We really don't need any kind of "paranormal" explanations for this kind of thing. The human mind and body are weird enough as it is.

It was one I could feel. I can still remember it as if it did happen. I've remembered dreams, I still remember some dreams but this seemed like I actually woke up.

That is pretty interesting, and I'm completely on-board with that explanation. What I can't explain is that it took the form of a blowing curtain/mist that passed over me almost wrapping me in it. My reaction, if I were awake would be "get the **** off me!" My patience has been wearing thin. Of course, it could be a manifestation of feeling especially overwhelmed lately.

The guy in front of me for Dinner just minutes ago wore a red spider image, a spiderweb, over the honeycomb pattern of a beehive.

It actually was so cool I was going to ask him if I could take a picture, but people there already think I'm possessed by Satan, a serial killer weirdo, to such an extent they accuse me of stuff, and say "oh you know what", so I didn't want to draw any more attention to the legions of dead people that are stored in my body where dwelleth souls that Jesus hates...:smilingimp:

Pretty cool , the pattern I just saw, when you consider the two most female dominant animals are spiders and bees, when I don't actually know if that was supposed to be the message the art work was supposed to be portraying.

But spiders could do a lot to help protect the Queen Bees as well, that the other bees commit suicide to protect, and male spiders actually feed the females their flesh and blood for holy communion and to give the women sexual gratification during sex , sometimes dancing prior, to hypnotize them.

So, when you mention feeling a spider web, not knowing if it was a dream, right after I see a coat that speaks to me about a few things that happened on my journey involving Bee and Spider stuff showing up in strange places and on clothing, maybe it was a dream for a purpose ;)

Personally based on your reply to my post, and I could of course be wrong, but I would take what happened to you as paranormal.

Time to start keeping those pics of Narasimha and Durga, since she is his sister (and they are both protectors) by my chair and bed again. One evening, in the old house, which I mentioned felt "sick", I felt a chill that was not temperature related. I felt an uneasiness too. I got a small picture of Lord Narasimha, the lion avatar of Vishnu who is a fierce protector, and put it on the table next to me. The feeling went away almost immediately and I never felt that cold uneasiness again. The feeling "off" was a different, more annoying feeling.

On a trip to Italy, I visited a building, perhaps a castle, that was reputed to be haunted. I did not think much of it but that night I had a "nightmare" that I was under attack. You would not think that someone who is Jewish would have the response of holding up a cross to repel the attack, but that's what I did in my "dream".

It would just be how your mind tried to interpret what would essentially be random sensations. There wouldn't be anything physical that could account for them but some kind of moving material or mist would be the closest your mind could come up with to try to account for them. The emotional reaction could well relate to your personal circumstances and mental state but that would be distinct from the physiological causes.

I think that’s the effect of the overarching western culture of Christianity. You use the tools that seem to be most effective.

I'd like to ask you some questions before I can determine what I believe you experienced. The first question I have for you is whether you have had any other strange experiences that you have been unable to explain or debunk. The second question I have for you is whether you have had other unusual occurrences in your home, such as objects being moved, unexplained knocks on the wall, a door being open after having recently been closed, lights flickering, light fixtures swinging but no air vent nearby, or unusual aromas such as perfume or cigar tobacco smoke. The third question I have for you is whether you are aware of any previous residents, previous owners, or other occupants such as a relative of a previous resident or owner who passed away in your home or somewhere else on the property. The fourth question I have for you is whether you are familiar with the history of the land on which you live. And my final inquiry is whether you have recently purchased an antique, furniture, or anything else from an antique store, thrift shop, garage sale, or estate sale. After you have responded to these questions, I'll share my perspective with you. I look forward to your response.

I'd like to ask you some questions before I can determine what I believe you experienced.

1. The first question I have for you is whether you have had any other strange experiences that you have been unable to explain or debunk.

None that I can think of except what I think are the spirits of my dogs. I lost one in July 2021 due to kidney failure. He was 12. I lost his sister in Sept. 2022 due to complications from diabetes. She was 13. I see little shadows, which I think are them scampering around. These shadows don't frighten or startle me, but rather, they're amusing because they were kooky little dogs in life.

Nothing of that nature other than the the place being generally noisy. It's a condo unit in a large complex. Given construction methods and lax codes, I'm not surprised I hear wood snapping and banging when we're walking around. The refrigerator occasionally makes banging noises. Again, I attribute it to the appliance itself.

3. The third question I have for you is whether you are aware of any previous residents, previous owners, or other occupants such as a relative of a previous resident or owner who passed away in your home or somewhere else on the property.

My landlords used to live here. No one died here that I know of. The wife is a self-styled witch, more of a New Age adherent. She occasionally saged the place. Her husband once told me he used to see a shadow at the top of the spiral staircase ... his recliner is exactly where mine is. However, like me, his son is autistic and never saw anything. Supposedly we're sensitive to that sort of thing. Apart from what I think are my dogs and the "mist" the other night I can't say I've seen anything.

The land is set aside as a nature preserve, though not a very large one. The town was largely rural and farms. It is still quite undeveloped in areas. No purchases or any acquisitions from anything you mentioned, nothing we haven't had for years. I know that entities can attach themselves to things and people. My husband's sister is dabbling in, and getting involved with people involved in santería. She's been involved in brujería in the past. Allegedly she's been experiencing unsavory occurrences. She's never been here and I want to keep it that way. I said under no circumstances do I want her here. I don't know what may be attached to her.

With all the images and statues of gods (I'm Hindu, of course), saints, angels (my husband is Catholic), and my daily worship ritual I am sure that all keeps things at bay, if there is anything unsavory.

Most people associate spirits with the spirits of other people who have passed away and do not consider the spirits of dogs, cats, and other animals. As a psychic medium, I can also see animal spirits, and I have seen quite a few. I have seen the spirits of my deceased pets—three dogs and two cats—and so can my living pets (dogs and cats can sense, see, and hear spirits as well). I've also witnessed a deceased male lion trying to interact with a living male lion at a zoo. I do not believe that all pets and other animals are earthbound, however, because I have seen a herd of spectral horses gallop across an open field, and I could sense that it was a residual haunting.

As a seasoned paranormal investigator, I believe it's likely that you encountered a manifestation of a human spirit. Based on the summary you provided in your response (the shadow figure and the spirits of your dogs), I believe that you have a haunting, and based on your description of the misty manifestation, I believe it is an intelligent one. If the spirit is the shadow figure seen in your home, you could attempt to communicate with it through a spirit box, which will enable you to speak directly with the spirit and vice versa. If it is not the shadow figure, it is most likely a summoned spirit, and summoning a spirit is possible through both witchcraft and Santería rituals. If the spirit is not bothering you and you do not wish to communicate with it, then I suggest leaving it alone.

With all the images and statues of gods (I'm Hindu, of course), saints, angels (my husband is Catholic), and my daily worship ritual I am sure that all keeps things at bay, if there is anything unsavory.

The only time I utilized a religious sign to ward off malevolent spirits was when I was still a Christian, and it was a cross necklace. I no longer wear the necklace or use any other Christian symbols. I currently use a variety of spiritual protection stones as well as a rune that was designed for me by someone who practices divination and is quite familiar with spiritual protection. In addition to using the protection stones and the rune, I regularly cleanse my house and use warding for spiritual protection for my family and our home.

Thanks for the insights. I can say that the memory of it is fading, so I guess it didn't really shake me up.

Agreed, and as a Hindu we believe all living things have a soul, a "self", the proper tem being ātman. The ātman is part of Brahman, the ground of all being and existence. So if everything is Brahman, then dogs, cats, parrots, even centipedes have a spirit.

All right, then. I can therefore rule out the possibility of poltergeist activity.

Which is a relief. Fortunately I never thought we had that problem.

It's possible it was just passing through. Btw, I don't know if I mentioned that it was pure white, if that means anything. As far as the dogs, I'm happy to have them around. It's also possible, however, that I'm not letting them move on. We still have their toys in the extra beds we always had, kind of like toy boxes. I think in time they will move on. Hindu belief holds that the soul can hang around and be with its family for a while before moving on to its next birth.

I've never seen a shadow; the mist is the only thing I've ever encountered. And again, I don't rule out that it was one of my kooky dreams. in any case I'm definitely not going to poke the bear.

I don't regularly do any kind of cleansing, though I think my landlord said his wife did, unless one considers ringing the puja bell, waving the oil lamp and incense for the deities to be a cleansing of sorts. One thing I'll add is that when we do puja, our worship ritual, we pray to Ganesha first so he removes any obstacles; we ring the bell to cleanse the area; and offer light to the deities. The bell and light are said to get the deities' attention. At the same time the deity we are doing puja for is invoked and greeted.

So I hope the incident was just a fluke.

You are very welcome. Please feel free to send me a private message if you have any additional questions regarding your experience, if you have another encounter with the spirit, or if you have questions about other paranormal phenomena. My inbox is always open.

That is very intriguing to me, so thank you for sharing this information about your beliefs with me.

Which is a relief. Fortunately I never thought we had that problem.

Poltergeist activity is a fairly common occurrence in my home. It has been ever since we moved into the house twenty-two years ago, and it gradually began to increase after I started practicing mediumship fifteen years ago. I am very accustomed to seeing it and dealing with it now, and aside from one incident last year, it doesn't bother me when I witness it in my home or at a haunted location.

In fact, I will sometimes encourage it when I'm investigating a haunted location with other paranormal investigators and/or with skeptics. I will sometimes ask the spirits to make their presence known by knocking on a wall, moving an object, or turning the lights on and off. I've also used EMF detectors or REM pods to interact with spirits (blink the red light once for no, twice for yes) when I am actively investigating a haunted location with skeptics and other paranormal investigators. I normally use a spirit box, though.

The spirits who have yet to cross over are referred to as "earthbound spirits."

I've never seen a shadow; the mist is the only thing I've ever encountered. And again, I don't rule out that it was one of my kooky dreams. in any case I'm definitely not going to poke the bear.

In your previous post, you said, "Her husband once told me he used to see a shadow at the top of the spiral staircase... his recliner is exactly where mine is," and that is what I was referring to when I said a shadow figure. It could have been a shadow person, but not much is known about these humanoid creatures within the paranormal field and Parapsychology. I think it could have been a spirit.

I smudge and cleanse my home on a regular basis, especially when a negative spirit follows me home, either from a haunted location or from another location where spirits are aware of my ability to see and hear them. I don't cleanse my house to get rid of the positive spirits who pass through, but I will encourage these spirits to cross over. However, their presence does not bother me or my family.

So I hope the incident was just a fluke.

Maybe or maybe not. If you have encounter like this one, please let me know about it. Thanks.
