Televangelists?

Personally I think they are all crooks :D

Agreed.

Assuming we're talking about the people who ask viewers to send them money in exchange for some reward, I see it as downright predatory. There are desperate people out there who don't see an escape from their situation outside of divine intervention. Preying on them is just evil, particularly if the televangelist is already a multi-millionaire.

Kenneth Copeland springs to mind here. Him telling people to keep tithing during Covid lockdowns even if they'd lost their job was disgusting.

No. Never sent money. I've watched them in the past. Kinda like "know thy enemy" sorta thing.

Growing up in this area we had both TV preachers and then the TV evangelists. It was obvious back then that the former were more legit and the latter were mostly charlatans. When I was an interested child, I used to watch a local preacher who really should have tried for the national stage. He founded local charities, homeless shelters and services for abused wives and children. He lived in a modest typically American ranch house and occasionally complained/joked about his jalopy Dodge sedan. No private jets. No multiple mansions. No five thousand dollar shoes. No extramarital follies. Not all Christian ministers are blazen and brazen self serving hypocrites.

Has anyone here ever actually sent money to a televangelist?

If so, do you think you reaped any benefit from doing so?

My FIL used to write to Peter Popoff just to see what he would get. Got some weird stuff. He was atheist though.

Never did. Never will.

I like my money to actually be useful and beneficial rather than see my 'donation' go to paying for that scamner's new BMW, college tuition for their entitled bratty spoiled children, or private jet.

The only way I might give money to a televangelist is if they start taking their clothes off. Not that I’m throwing out a request to all you televangelists out there… (or am I?)

No.

But even if I weren't sure they were crooks, I wouldn't send money to any non-local charity which includes anybody asking for money including political interests - not just the needy. My donations are only to the needy, and always local. I know the people I am giving money to, I can see their work, and unlike huge charities like the United Way with fundraising and administrative costs that reduce efficiency, the money is all spent on the beneficiaries. Presently, that is in the form of local dog neutering and adopting facilities and tipping everybody who looks like they can use it, which is a lot of people in my Mexican village. Sending it to a televangelist instead would be obscene.

I'm sure most have no desire to see Joyce Meyers nude.

Come to think of it, some might pay to ensure her clothes stay on.

If I promise to buy a modest car, and just RENT a jet...?
