I remember making a small donation to wikipedia. Recently they prompted for another, but I wondered if it was a good idea. After looking around I found numerous articles saying that it might be that wikimedia foundation didn't know what to do with all of the cash it was already swimming in. One of them was on theregister.

Wikipedia doesn't need your money - so why does it keep pestering you?

I do use this service. I'm a tiny bit concerned that giving donations too often will make the wikipedia worse instead of better, but I don't know. What's the big picture in your opinion?

I don't know the big picture, but seems like they ask for donations rather often, and I've also had friends and acquaintances in the past tell me that they're donating to them. I haven't, though.

Can you give examples of bias on wikipedia? It always seemed objective to me

It pretty much does for me, too. One example where things go a bit differently, is that if you look at certain Hinduism articles, they appear to have American or Western interpretation and influence, which can sometimes be a bit different than a more traditional approach to the subjects.

The article you found is from ten years ago. Anything more recent out there?

I donate every year. I use it, so I ought to contribute.

I've never donated, though I use it quite often. I was recently considering a donation, but after reading this I'm wondering.

In an aside, I find Wikipedia fairly useful as a resource. When in doubt about what they have to say, one can look at the references they provide or seek out other sources. Still, I find it a useful jumping off point for information and leads.
