Traditional GOP vs. modern GOP

These key points taken from "The Newsroom", TV show:

Traditional Republicans believe in "market solutions" and strong defense. (To this I'll add that giving tax breaks and subsidies to the massively rich and profitable are NOT market solutions.)

To be a new Republican you have to:
- be homophobic
- deny science
- think that poor people have it easy
- fear education and intellect
- hate Democrats

Sadly, this seems about right.

I don't like these blanket lists. This might be true when applied to the collective of republicans, but there are still many that don't fit this list. I heard Joe Walsh call McCarthy an empty man this morning in an interview, and McCarthy is empty because he has no ethical standards as he tries to get the speakership. He has to play the moderates and extremists.

The reason so many irrational republicans are in office today is due to the voters. The real examination should be why voters are selecting these bad candidates. Most of the republicans who voted for Trump's impeachement either were voted out of office or resigned because they had too much opposition for a viable win. Liz Cheney was primaried out. Many of the republicans who lost the midterm election were more extreme options in their primaries. This falls on the voters. The question is what is going on in the conservative voter's mind?

I like this. I’d LOVE to see a similar thread for new and old Dems.

That is not unique to the USA.
You can find in part those variations within all Western democracies with some local variations.

The message ignores their diversity.
This is just as not all Democrats are anti-gun sexist
socialist war mongers. (I actually know one who isn't.)

Oh touche! Because clearly the message was meant to be 100%, black and white.

This list is no more accurate then saying

“To be a modern Leftist, you must:

-Paint your hair purple
-Denounce masculinity
-Struggle with your identity
-Glorify mental illness and victimhood
-Identify as oppressed in as many ways as possible
-Scour the internet daily looking for things to be outraged about
-Watch CNN every day, aka the one true non biased completely objective and factual news source
-Master the art of WhataboutTrumpism
-Be an abortion enthusiast
-Believe that only the government should have access to firearms
-Hate law enforcement personnel
-Hate the US military
-Hate the gender binary
-Build your own sob story over why you hate Christians, because obviously they all think and behave exactly alike, and it’s horrible
-Hate your own race if you are white
-Hate white people if you are nonwhite (but it’s okay, because you think only white people can be racist) because and they are responsible for most of not all of your problems
-Hate Republicans, and remove any family or friends from your life who even lean that way
-Hate America, because it was never great to begin with, and is basically a third world country
-Etc”

The Republican Party doesn't really do diversity. It does old time, pasty bigots like Pence. It promotes Christian led prayer in school and tossing evolution out the window (because it's "just a theory"). It represents the state deciding/restricting healthcare options and taking away the ability to healthcare providers and patients to decide what treatments are best. It does frequently attack higher education (especially the religious minded ones because they know their fairytales often are rendered unbelievable by education and intellectual thought). And I've heard it from them for a very long time about how poor people have the red carpet rolled out for them and have it easier than anyone else.
