How did you find RF?

The Sum of Awe

Brought to you by the moment that spacetime began.
It’s been a while but iirc I found it through googling for a religious debate forum. Prior to this i was often on Yahoo Answers Religion and Spirituality, as well as a small chatroom dedicated to that forum (and polls and surveys)

I remember when RF was booming with threads and posts. LHP DIR was very active and i had many friends in that section. What I love about RF is the site layout, there are so many useful categories for discussion. Another thing is the diversity which, though it isn’t as diverse as it used to be, it is still very diverse and that’s what makes this place a great place to learn and debate topics.

I only wish it were more active.

I'm not actually sure I remember how I found it. But probably similar to you, searched a religious discussion debate forum on Google.

When a certain other discussion board that included religion and spirituality that I frequented closed down, I probably used Google to find what I hoped were other sites to fill that need. After several misses, I discovered RF. That was more than 11 years ago...

.

Same here though mostly active on chat. When Yahoo chat died went looking for something else.

Spent several years only on RF Religious/General Religious Debates forums. As that slowed/became more static, eventually ventured out.

I googled.
I was looking for a multi-faith discussion forum, specifically to ask some questions if deists but where atheists were welcome.

And no, I don't think I put all that in the search. I just looked at a few of the hits I got, and worked out through mostly guesswork and Mabo (err...the vibe) which would be best.

And here I stayed. Like a particularly persistent tapeworm.

After trying Multi forums whose response...too scary the advice. Not spiritually supportive of the community type.

I researched for a forum that discussed multi issues not allowing the forum bullies to get you removed.

As they wanted to learn and expand current views.

In the past… when I’ve been cast out and banned from some cyber realm, it was only natural that I would perpetuate my online existence by moving on to another forum. Maybe I would return one day. Maybe not. I have had many faces and many names. Time and experience have taught me many lessons. Now that I am not the chaotic thrill seeker that I once was, distracted by emotion, and driven by untamed passion… it is easier to operate in various online spaces without being smited. Much to the dismay of those who oppose my words.

That is how I originally ended up in this place. I got smited somewhere… and I was born again here.

There is no regret. Every incarnation has served a purpose. When that purpose is fulfilled… it all ends, one way or another. Change is embraced. The past gives way to the future. I fall to the ground and I erupt in flames. Then, somewhere out there, I open my eyes. There is a vast expanse before me. I feel the sun and the wind upon my face. It feels good. Rebirth.

“The outer form is not the essence.”

The site I used to frequent closed down and a user told me about RF. He is still listed with 0 posts and last seen on the day he joined.

I don't remember exactly how I found RF, I was probably doing a Google search for a religious forum. Before I came to RF I posted on Delphi Forums, mostly on a forum called Believer, Unbeliever, and Ex-believers. That forum was almost all atheists and the forum owner was a hard atheist. Whenever a believer showed up they were raked through the coals, and after a short while the Baha'is were limited to one thread and we could not post anything about Baha'i anywhere but that thread. I called it solitary confinement. There weren't very many Baha'is posting on that forum but after we were quarantined all the other Baha'is left but me. I finally got tired of all that folderol and that is why I looked for another forum. That was about five years ago.

I went back from time to time to say hi but I have not been back there for a while. It is a forum where time and people stand still. Nothing ever changes. I could go back now and they'd still be talking about the same boring stuff! Almost all the people on there are older than sin, but nobody ever dies, they just keep living forever, and they just assume everyone else lives forever. One Baha'i friend of mine from there sent me a private message a few months ago asking how my husband was but I never responded since my husband had passed on and I did not want all those people who used to be my friends to find out. They would all say how sorry they are, meanwhile they still have a spouse. It's just not fair, but life is not fair. Sorry you have to listen to me but I have nobody else to talk to anymore.

Lol, I never would have guessed. I came here on the rebound from a primarily atheist forum. :D
That's where I got all my practice debating with atheists.

You might be but the forum isn't that active. Haven't you noticed that there are not many religious debates anymore, like there used to be?
I haven't but as you are mentioning it ...
I have noticed that there are almost no creationist debates any more. I'm not so deluded to think we convinced them but I guess word got around that some knowledgable people are around.
As for religious debates, I skipped those with specifics and only partook in general questions (mostly). Those still pop up now and then.

I never got into the creationist debates, only general religious debates.
I am going to unveil a new thread on GRD tomorrow.
