Going on 3.5 years here. I also take frequent hiatuses. Here is how I feel I've changed in those 3.5 years:

+More interested in critical thinking (as of late)
+More focused on fashion as a subject
-Less interested in the idea of being atheist
-Less liberal
-Less focused on making a lot of friends
-Less focused on video games, particularly RPGs

Any questions? None of them have to be specific to the list I just posted.

I liked them more as a teenager where I had a lot of extra hours.

I certainly don't have the hours to sink into them now. But I still let RPGs take up a portion of my free time. I consider it akin to reading or watching a movie to relax.

Can you still rock in America?

I'm also interested in fashion, though perhaps alternative fashion.

Are you interested in teaming up and creating a clothing line that would be sure to disgust and overwhelm @Secret Chief?

I'm really curious about this idea, can you say more?

When I joined the forum, I had less knowledge on the various religions, and I was exploring faiths, and I actually considered the lack of religion, which was atheism. When you're raised Christian, you sometimes start to get into a "Christian or Agnostic or Atheist?" mindset without considering all the other possibilities.

I feel I've become more distant from atheism these past 3.5 years though. I've encountered a lot of atheists on this forum, some I even think quite highly of, but while I hate to draw lines, I've noticed that my thought-process in general just isn't the same as them, really. I feel as distant from some atheists in thought-process as I do some people of Abrahamic religions. But I still like many of them, anyway. Say I had to do a project with an atheist, where we had to match some of our thought processes on a project like say, building a boat, my choice of person to work with would be @It Aint Necessarily So based on reading some of his posts.

But it's not an "I don't like atheists" thing, just kind of where I don't feel like I could fit into that group as a member. I've had some life experiences which I feel have just about cemented me a theist.

And someone will quote me saying "Atheism is lack of a religion, nothing more, nothing less" to which I'd respond "Some ideas tend to be different about it than with theists, that can result in different thought process of the people who are atheist, different reliance and importance on certain constructs (science, data, literalism, fantasy, inspiration, motivation, evidence, etc). I know this from having had some close atheist friends in my life. Sometimes the difference works out well, and we even become good sounding boards. I'm just different, where I exist outside the group but would find it hard to actually fit in it being one."

If I understand, you're looking at these ideas two ways:
- the social perspective, maybe even sneaking towards a cultural aspect?
- Your personal experience(s).

That's an interesting approach, thanks.

And another interesting take..

Could you give me some examples of constructs in the theist camp? (As a sort of counterpoint to the interesting atheist constructs you listed above.)

Um, actually I think the constructs apply to atheists and theists both, I mean it's the views on those things (the constructs) that changes.

Maybe when I said "construct", it sounded like I was framing things negatively about those categories. That wasn't the intent.

No worries, construct didn't sound negative.

So now I think I understand. Have you seen bigger, older stereo systems that had a separate box just to do the EQ? Remember those boxes had a couple of sets of sliders to adjust each frequency up or down volume?

So these topics: science, data, literalism, fantasy, inspiration, motivation, evidence
Could each be a "frequency" on the EQ machine and different people will choose to emphasize or deemphasize each topic to suit them?

I'll have to think about that. That analogy may be a bit simplistic, but could sometimes, to some extent, work. But maybe not always.
That's why I'm having a really difficult time explaining my thoughts.

For example, fantasy. Some atheists think it. Some theists live it.

Science. Some atheists see it as a reliable and consistent measure. Some theists see it as an ever-changing measure.

Etc.
