Jesus' baptism was Jesus public demonstration that he was here dedicated to do God's Will.
Christian baptism is for adults who made a private dedication to God thus showing that private dedication is now made known by public immersion baptism.

i asked what is the baptism of jesus. i didn't ask about a god, or rules of salvation
In the Bible, to me Christian Baptism would be one of the ' rules of salvation ' .
Publicly immersed in water after making a private dedication to God.

I believe that was fire according to John the Baptist. Perhaps that refers to the day of Pentecost when tongues of fire appeared over those who spoke in tongues.

you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. you can lead a person to salvation but you can't get some to save themselves.

Right, or as Jesus said at Matthew 24:13 to endure to the end in order to be saved.
So, just being baptised, or led to baptism itself does Not save ( deliver / rescue )

I believe no-one can save himself.
people build walls to keep themselves in as much as to keep people out. someone reaching out doesn't mean everyone will take the hand offered. people kille themselves all the time either purposely or out of ignorance.

The subject of baptism is a "fault line" in Christianity.
The Amish in the US emigrated from Europe due to persecution from the Catholic church.
They believe that baptising infants [ Christening ] is not appropriate, and that baptism should only be done when a person understands what it means.
[Anabaptists]

..just saying.. ;)

has nothing to do with the baptism of jesus. one is a baptism of water the other of spirit. so with the baptism of jesus the spirit was seen above the waters.

What you suggest is not biblical. Making rules like that is what the Pharisees did.
We are saved by faith alone - Sola Fide

There is also nothing like publicly immersion in water after making a private dedication to God.
What is that anyway?

For you perhaps but please do not include all of Christianity in your views.

All the Protestant Reformers including Luther, Zwingli and Calvin held to infant baptism.

Baptism is one of the sacraments established by Christ (holy communion and baptism). Both are simply defined as covenant signs. Baptism is a sign and seal of God's covenant of grace with us and our children.

Baptism assures us that “as surely as water washes away dirt from the body, so certainly [Christ’s] blood and his Spirit wash away . . . all [our] sins”. In other words, baptism is the 'visible' word of God promising us that we are cleansed in Christ's blood, buried with him unto death and that we will rise with Him.

Reformed Christianity rejects the Roman Catholic view of baptism as unbiblical and sub-Christian because it replaces faith as the instrument of justification. In other word baptism does not save us.

Am I remembering incorrectly but isn't there baptism by water and baptism by spirit?
Some are confused by this. The Reformed position on Baptism in the Spirit is that it occurs at the time of conversion once and forever. There is no “second blessing” as enunciated in Pentecostal groups.

Baptism is all about the washing away of our sins. That is easy to understand.

Two things occur in baptism: the one an external where the minister of the church baptise us by his hand with water; the other an internal in which the blood of Christ himself baptise us with "his blood and Spirit.”

Baptism is, therefore, to wash away sins where the external baptism is a sign of the internal, that is, of regeneration.

Since the Holy Spirit descended from above, and water baptism is a picture of Spirit baptism. But baptism by the Spirit happens at the moment of conversion whilst water baptism is just a sign of that. If you are a Christian, you have been baptised with the Holy Spirit.

the conversion is in mindful thinking, mental = spiritual

this is the fire, the spirit, that rests upon the head during the day of pentecost. it is associated to the head because of the relationship to the mind, body, spirit complex. this is why the dove descended upon jesus.

the dove is a symbol of love, of purity.

only love is good.

'To do God's Will' is the dedication one makes to God before immersion ( Christian baptism )

I think most people would consider the Golden Rule ( Leviticus 19:18 ) as a Rule made by God.
The Pharisees were making un-scriptural rules - ( human rules outside of Scripture as being Scripture )
For example: Mark 7:3 ( tradition of men - Mark 7:5 )
Those religious leaders were teaching as many clergy do today, they teach clergy teachings as being Scripture.
- Matthew 15:9; Mark 7:7-13

Faith without works is dead according to the Bible - James 2:26
Faith causes people to follow Jesus' instructions found at Matthew 24:13-14 and Acts of the Apostles 1:8
