Methodism?

What do people think of Methodism?

Any Methodists here?

I know @Frank Goad identifies as a Methodist

I go to a Methodist church

But am not a Christian

So cannot claim to be a Methodist but were I to ever embrace Christ again I would do it at my local Methodist church

Methodism is my favourite vairety of Christianity

I don't know about denominations but out of all the churches in my town the Methodist church is my favourite, so that's what I'm basing this off

I was going to do the training to be a worship leader and then maybe even a lay preacher

But my views became increasingly unorthodox

You can be as unorthodox as you want in the pews

But if you're in the pulpit then you have to be 101% conventional Christian

Which is something I could never truthfully do

I have no place in any Christian pulpit

But yes, I could lie and be a hypocrite but I wouldn't want to do that although I'm sure many people do

Basically: I've grown fond of the members of the Methodist congregation that I'm a part of

I'm basing my affiliation on the vibe of one specific congregation rather than on how I view the denomination as a whole

I grew up in the Wesley Methodist Church, remember is as very friendly, no bashing of other religions. It was a large, very beautiful church.

The Irish Protestant branch of my family were all Methodists... like to the point that the family tradition of naming the first-born son William and the second-born son Wesley makes the genealogy confusing.

I see it as the boring version of Anglicanism :D

It's very Protestant - too much so for me.

Methodists are "mainline" rather than "fundamentalist" ... which some may find appealing.

Not that these are official categories or anything. But Methodists tend to reject biblical inerrancy (they admit that there may be factual errors in the Bible, even though they think the Bible contains everything needed for salvation.) Some Methodist organizations will bless gay marriages others won't. It varies by country and cultural attitude, as you might expect.

Mmm..
I don't believe that "Jesus is God", and I also attend a Methodist / United Reform church.
I like worshiping in congregation. I like singing hymns. :)

This notion that you must believe in the trinity to be a Christian, is unfortunate.

I thought that was the Episcopals. :p
The Episcopals are the 'cool' versions of Anglicans.

As Vulcanlogician pointed out, Methodists are more laid-back, less judgemental and less 'evangelical' than, say, Baptists.
