The Sum of Awe

Brought to you by the moment that spacetime began.
Let's say scientists invent a little pill that you only have to take once ever your whole life.

The effect: It replaces any and all need for sleep. You will never feel tired, your brain will function normally, you'll retain your memories, your body will recharge just the same except you won't need to sleep. It doesn't shorten your life, it doesn't affect you in any other way other than you're awake 24/7.

Basically imagine pulling an all-nighter every night without ever feeling any of the negative side-effects of sleep deprivation.

The only downside: You'll never be ABLE to sleep again. No more dreaming, no more shutting your eyes and being away from the world for a while, no more comforting daytime naps, no more going off into a nice comfy sleep cuddling with your partner, no more dozing off to compensate for boredom... You'll never sleep again, not even for 5 minutes.

Would you take it?

Certainly not! Sleep is the next best thing to being dead.

I need dreams. I love dreams. They're another world.
Haha, I was thinking the same thing. But very seldom do I remember my dreams these days, I know I have them though.

But at the same time... imagine what you could do with all that extra time!! It's so tempting

I wish there was a pill I could take that would guarantee me 12 hours of blissful and uninterrupted sleep

I would take one, go to sleep, wake up - eat and go to the toilet - and then swallow another one - and repeat that process over and over so I'd only be awake for say ten minutes every day

I prefer being asleep to being awake

I love slumber

Sleep is too much fun!

Besides, then people would just expect me to do double, since I'm not sleeping...

That wears me out just thinking about it.

I need a nap.

I would take it. More time to get things done. It would give me an edge trading crypto (a lot of radical surprise fluctuations happen in the wee hours because the market is global). It would let me see more sunrises (I love dawn, I just wish it didn't come so early).

I would probably run out of things to watch on amazon prime pretty quickly though.

Yes, that would be quite an easy choice to me.

Interesting.
I can't remember the last time I had a good dream. Perhaps if I decided to undertake the challenge, I could count with both of my hands how many times I have had a good dream in my entire life? Certainly less than 10.

Would you take it?

Oh no, i get little enough sleep as it is and what i do get is precious to me.

And I'd miss waking up, that is a most wonderful part of the whole life experience

I do love sleeping, its like being dead without the commitment

I've been drinking Malbec and listening to Lacrimosa so I'm fine :D

Yeah it's great, I really love it. I want to move here.
Good. That sounds like the authentic university experience.

Mozart? Verdi? Someone else? (I used to listen to the B Minor Mass a lot - and later the St Matthew Passion.)

Yeah, that's what the advertisements say. I'd need some pretty strong evidence that that is true before I take it.

Btw: it is possible to sleep less when you sleep more often. With a polyphasic sleep model you can carve out several hours of waking time a day without feeling tired.

Well, how you describe it "no side effects"
I would take the pill for sure

Now I only sleep like 4 hours a day
But I am not perfectly recharged
So, I would go for the pill
Body recharged

All will improve when you have the perfect "sleep" :D

I would take it. These days I don't sleep as well as I used to and can feel tired during the day. I would love to never feel tired, to always be alert and fresh.

As for dreaming, I'm pretty good at daydreaming so there will still be that. :)
