Bridging the Gap Between Believers and Skeptics
I made a similar post in /r/polls but I wanted to ask the good people here at Religious Forums this question as well. I also wanted to ask this question in a more clear, concise format. This seems like the perfect place to put this poll. I'm curious as to what people are going to say about this.

Currently I live in a suburb of Milwaukee. It's large enough where the busses still run around, yet small enough to be considered safe by most people's standards. There was a Meijer's and a Festival Foods built around me, and they added sidewalks going east now. There's a lot of construction going on towards the west side of the suburb, which they built basically a second downtown area of the city. I live near a large park, and they are currently doing construction on that too.

I would consider living anywhere except the countryside, because I don't own or operate a car or other vehicle. i have learned that the exurbs of Wisconsin can and do offer services to provide for the needs of low-income individuals in my state, and broadband Internet is accessible almost everywhere here, except in a few rural areas up north.

My parents want me to continue to live in this suburb however because they claim I would be really bored if I moved closer to them, in an exurb of Milwaukee. Although I hate to admit it, but that is probably true. In any case if things do change I will always have the opportunity to move there anyways. I'm on Section 8 and the property company I would use exists all around the state. My parents have told me they will eventually move somewhere up north, and I have a rough plan of what I'll do when they do that.

That's not for ten years however and I got a lot of time to think about it before it happens. I've been living here now for six years and will most likely be living here much longer than that. I've taken various apartment tours and really what I've come to find out is that the current place I'm living in is just better in many ways compared to almost anywhere else I could or would move into had I not lived here.

There's a lot of violence now in Milwaukee, even around the area I used to live, and I don't think I want to take the risk and move towards the inner city again. The place I used to live was filled with drug addicts. Many people I knew from that building are either dead now or in a much worse spot. I don't want to be living in that apartment anymore, for various reasons. The demographic of where I live now is better, even if everybody here is poor like me.

If I did move out of the suburbs chances are I'd most likely move to a smaller town rather than a larger one, so I can be closer to my parents and stay safe. As long as I can have access to broadband Internet I should be fine... The cities might be interesting but it's not worth risking my life over. Plus my appointments can be done virtually now.

I'm in a good spot where I'm in. From where I am at I can walk almost anywhere in the county. The busses now stop at the Meijer's built just up the street. They also just built a movie theater near me too. And overall I feel safe here. Once in awhile during a bad thunderstorm the power or Internet will go out. That's a small price to pay for the comfort and safety of a large suburb.

TLDR Version: I live in the suburbs and I'm going to be here for awhile.

So, what type of area do you reside in?

I've lived in the countryside and in a small rural town (~ 2,500 pop) for most of my life. Around 10 years ago I relocated to the suburbs in a metropolitan area (~180,000 pop).

I'm not really sure what makes an exurb/small town, as opposed to Rural.

Okay, I'll try to be more clear on this...

Urban/City: A location with 100,000 or more people.
Suburbs/Large Town: A location adjacent to a city or a large town with 50,000 or more people.
Exurbs/Small Town: A location further out of a large city than the suburbs or a small town with at least a few thousand people.
Rural/Countryside: A location that isn't incorporated into a small town or a place without a municipality.
Homeless: Without a house, or otherwise travelling instead of grounded towards one location.

If you live somewhere between those five, figure it out.

Well, that puts me into small town category I guess. I live in a small town of about 1200 people, next to another small town of about 2000 people. (We but against each other's borders).

Located roughly 25-30 mins from the next major city.

I live in Concord CA which I classify as suburban since Oakland/SF are the real cities.

A village of around 300 inhabitants (500 if you count the outlying hamlets). It's situated in a forested valley with a river running through it. 25km from the nearest small city.

I put suburbs, even though in this region, my city is considered largish. Its got a population of about 70,000. I'm in the Midwest.

I both love and hate this place. I thought it was purely hate, but over the years, I've realized that I reflect its strangeness and have felt a little softer towards it. Iowa has the reputation of being white, Christian, and conservative, and I am not those things. Nor is this place, really... I'm just a misfit, and so is this place.

I hate this place for its crime and insensitivity. In my life of 38 years, I've had folks attempt to murder, rape, rob and assault me. Some of you know what's going on with the current squatter saga. I can't say I feel this place is safe. Its also poor, especially in comparison with its surrounding towns. I don't hate this, though, because I feel you meet more folks who are prone to help(because they understand) than in neighboring cities.

We're a unique bunch, and have a reputation for accepting displace populations, back from when slavery was abolished, and Black folks came north looking for work. They found it here at the now closed Rath Packing Plant, and our city has a rich history around these events and peoples. We've also taken in large Bosnian and Burmese refugee populations, and attract many Mexican immigrants as we have a major factory(that's always hiring) that requires no English to be employed.

But because of the poverty, cultural diversity presents itself differently. This isn't bad, but its a flavor you acquire an appreciation for. Rather than in museums and events(not to say there are no events, there are), it crops up in the way people eat, shop, present themselves, and house themselves. For being as small as we are, we have two mosques and a synagogue along with our myriad churches(I'm eagerly still awaiting the day a temple is built).

I know I'll never fit here; this isn't home. I don't know where home is. But, I respect the place, and wish its citizens well.

I live in a forest on the edge of a major city.

Considering moving to northern California because my forest isn't large enough or excluded enough for me anymore. And because of bigfoot. There's no sasquatch in my forest. Crap, there aren't any bears either. Kind of a lame forest. :(
