No fight outside of my own ego.

There is nothing or nobody to fight except my own ego.

The only fight happens from within, every day. Fighting jealous, greed, anger, and so on. But it all rise from within.
Interestingly, there is no "fight" necessary, internally, either. The solution to reigning in one's ego is to just let go of it. Ignore it and it will dissipate on it's own, fairly quickly. No fight is even necessary.

It is very easy to say "Just let go"
I said that for more than 20 years myself. But honestly it was words but I never actually did let go all of it.

Every day is a struggle, everything getting more and more difficult.
Letting go is easy when there is no struggle in life, letting go during stress and struggle, is not easy at all.

Actually, that struggle is what you will eventually get sick of. It's exhausting. And then finally you will be willing to let go of the thing you've been struggling with. And when you do, you'll find that it's very freeing!

I was struggling some years ago with an issue of my own, and the people helping me said to, "just let it go!" but I couldn't do it. And a friend gave me the analogy of holding onto a bar with my feet dangling in the air, and not being able to see the ground. So I imagined that if I were to let go, I would fall from some great height and surely die. When in reality, everyone around me could see the ground, and so knew that it's only a few inches beneath me. Which is why they were all telling me to just "let go".

Somehow that analogy helped. I guess because it showed me how fear of the unknown is logically unsound. And that I'm really no different than anyone else in that regard. So I trusted them and just let it go. And after I did it once, and felt the freedom and relief of it, it became easier and easier after that, until it just wasn't a thing, anymore.

The irony is that generally it's the ego fighting with itself. 'My ego' is an example. There is more ego in 'my' than in 'ego'.

If ego is an illusion, then what are you fighting?
IDK, maybe we create the illusion of ego so we have something else to blame our problems on.

Ego is not the illusion, it is our daily fight.

"Anger, passion, ignorance, prejudice, greed, envy, covetousness, jealousy and suspicion prevent man from ascending to the realms of holiness, imprisoning him in the claws of self and the cage of egotism." ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Bahá’í Scriptures, p. 241

Also, it is subtle, as we are mostly unaware of the effects it is having upon us.

". . . they do not know the subtlety of the ego of man. It is the Tempter (the subtle serpent of the mind), and the poor soul not entirely emancipated from its suggestions is deceived until entirely severed from all save God." ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Bahá’í Scriptures, p. 487

All the best, Regards Tony

“Even though a man may conquer ten times ten thousand men in battle, the true conqueror is he who conquers his own self” (Dhammapadda, the Thousands)

Free thyself from the fetters of this world, and loose thy soul from the prison of self. Seize thy chance, for it will come to thee no more.

Bahá’u’lláh, The Persian Hidden Words 40

22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. (Bible Ephesians 4:22-24)

Good thoughts, good words, good deeds (Zoroaster)

The self is a friend for him
who masters himself by the Self;
but for him who is not self-mastered,
the self is the cruelest foe. (Bhagavad-Gita 6:6)

So keep to the right course as you have been commanded, together with those who have turned to God with you. Do not overstep the limits, for He sees everything you do. (Quran 1:112)

I see the relationship with my ego more as "me" being a master or parent and my ego being like a pet or a child who can't tell right from wrong.
In my experience this works much better than trying to force your ego to stop doing what it's doing and hating yourself when the ego wins.

It's like when you try to raise a pet or a child; when you incessantly and forcefully try to mold them into something that may go against their nature, they will only become more rebellious or may even end up hating you.

Love your enemies.

Yes, it is an illusion:) the problem i going through are created by my self in my past, so everything i experience in suffering right now are things from my past to catching up to me.

The ego is that I can't do the things I want to due to my past. I can't blame it on others:)

Is there something specific going on that is makng it more difficult? If you want, start a private conversation with me, and/or whoever you trust.

It's a necessary 'mechanism'. We have an ego for a reason. But in most instances in modern humans it gets triggered unnecessarily, and then just becomes a nuisance. So we need to learn how to ignore it when it gets triggered unnecessarily. And that means learning how to recognize those rare occasions when it serves it's purpose, and then how to dismiss it on the many other occasions when it doesn't. So it's not really a matter of "fighting" it. It's just a matter of learning to ignoring it when it serves no useful purpose.

The native Americans used to see strong emotional reactions as spirits passing through their bodies, momentarily. When they would feel a pique of rage, or fear, or resentment, or whatever, they thought a 'spirit of rage", or of fear or of whatever had momentarily inhabited the same space as themselves. That these spirits were not of them, but just were just passing through them. So that if they would just wait a few seconds, or perhaps a minute, that spirit would move on out of their space, and be gone.

I always thought that was a nice way of perceiving those negative and unhepful piques of emotion. Just stand still for a moment, and let them pass through you.

However, sometimes they would get "stuck" inside a person, and then the "medicine man" would need to come and chase the bad spirits out of them. A primitive perspective, but psychologically effective. :)

Yes, that is a nice way of viewing it ... as passing through.
