Religion is not just black and white

Spirit of Light

Every religion has its teaching but each religious person will have their own understanding of the teaching. There will be times a believer will disagree with the teaching, especially in the beginning until their understanding of the wisdom of the teaching rise within them.

So no religion is not just black and White. One should not blindly follow, the study are ment to awaken the person slowly to the full truth.

Thoughts?

One of the reasons I like Taoism is because it dismisses scriptural literalism, scriptural perfectionism, and objectively correct religious truths in the first page.

Nobody can approach spirituality except through the window of their subjective experience, and they should do well to remember that when talking about 'truth.'

I agree with you. :)
..yet we should not isolate ourselves and think we know better than others. We should discuss, and be prepared to learn.

I do not like extremist views, where people follow a particular scholar and scorn others.

That is so for all learning. There is no difference between those who tell you that the world is physical or that they know for all us, what God wants. Both are without evidence.
To me wisdom is to doubt. I accept that you do it differently.

I see you are correct as truth is relative to each person and Faith is a journey of self discovery.

Much like this Hidden Word.

"O SON OF SPIRIT! I created thee rich, why dost thou bring thyself down to poverty? Noble I made thee, wherewith dost thou abase thyself? Out of the essence of knowledge I gave thee being, why seekest thou enlightenment from anyone beside Me? Out of the clay of love I molded thee, how dost thou busy thyself with another? Turn thy sight unto thyself, that thou mayest find Me standing within thee, mighty, powerful and self-subsisting."

The Hidden Words, Arabic no. 13

How can you have the full truth for a religion if you are questioning things and saying a religion is not black and white? How do you know a particular religion has the full truth anyways of which you think the alleged full truth is supposedly there at the pinnacle?

It ties back to the only proof we have of God, the Messengers.

They are the source and we determine if that source is trustworthy and truthful.

If we embrace them as trustworthy and truthful we can then be rest assured all they offer is the Truth, even if we are yet to understand some things offered.

That is a bond a child also has with their parents. When raised in Love, virtues and morals, a child will obey their parents.

Well, not all humans believe in The One True Religion. They accept in effect that there are some parts, which are individual.

In fact you can find your idea with some non-believers. There is only The Truth and Reality is One.
Some of us across the divide of religion and no religion know it is a bit more complicated than that.

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
I don't accept that a person should not ask questions of Scripture with a critical perspective. Everything I read of religious scriptures I read critically.

I understand people have a faithful perspective on reading scripture. However if the mind is reliable, and humans are moral agents that are responsible for their own understandings and actions, then it's more responsible to be critical of scriptures than it is to be faithful.

My biggest priority is not to be fooled into a blind faith, or a faith that is not true to reality.

Having said all that, there are things to learn from scriptures, and a lot to counter learn from scriptures.

I find i can learn more from etymology and a dictionary though.

Sometimes though I find language altogether insufficient for the kinds of expressions I like to make, and for things I experience in the way that I experience them.

If language is far from perfect how much can we expect of ancient scriptures? Even a word like love goes in many endless directions. Certainly not all love is speaking of the same love.

So when reading scriptures there's a lot of personal interpretation that goes into what is gleaned.

I suppose people can reach consensus on general meanings of things found in scriptures. However consensus does not mean truth has been understood, and achieved.

Each person is going to have their own perspective, and often enough no perspective is more authoritative than another. I think that's exactly why one religion turns into many different sects.

My thoughts are,”one man’s truth is another man’s doubt”.

One should definitely not blindly follow. But I would go further and say question everything. If you disagree with a particular teaching, maybe that is your inner moral or spiritual compass telling you something is not right about that teaching and it is better to discard it.

I ask my self many questions about my faith and belief. Actually i do it every day, but I do it to become more wise and understanding. Not to fault any religion.

Sometimes though there are too many faults in a religion and it is necessary to discard all or much of it in favour of something better.
