What are your thoughts regarding how other people should live their lives?

This is in response to another thread about alcohol, but I think such discussions could apply to anything that people do. How often should we go to the theatre? Ought we message our parents once a day, once a week or how often? How will you control how much sugar your children get -- and should you have the right to insist that your neighbours do as you do? What god should you worship? Is pizza twice a week good for maintaining family ties, or is it better to keep mother in the kitchen cooking while everybody else watches TV until she caters to them?

Doesn't anybody here ever get tired of being asked what you think other people should do? Would any of you who answer a resounding "NO" ever get tired about being told what YOU should do?

Sheesh.

I remember the great line in the Music Man, when Harold Hill asks a local "what do you all do around here for fun?" and he is answered, "Well, we mind our own business!"

But think how much better the world would be if everyone was just like me!!

*Thinks for a moment*

Yeah, so...let's just stay diverse.

I don't worry about how others live their lives(provided they're not causing danger to others).

I wish others would return the favor. I guess they're allowed to think what I should do. Its only if they try to push it on me that I get feisty.

People can live their lives the way they want, I only wish more people were more considerate of others but I wouldn't force them to be even if I could.

Live and let live generally, but I care when people break the law or are harming others.

Guilty, your honor. I keep saying other people should treat other people with decency, respect and inclusion. In fact it's something of a mantra of mine.

(If a way of bringing pizza into it occurs to me, I'll let you know.)

Now there's a conundrum! It seems to resonate of the old question, "should I tolerate intolerance?"

In a defeatist sort of way, I have to respond, "yes," but I'd really love a better answer. Wouldn't you?

Short of shooting the rascals, I can't think of anything that'd work.

But I'm not proposing that ─ far too Trumpish for me.

You shouldn't think like that.

I think it's complicated, and that's part of the reason why I am here, constantly thinking about it, and writing about it. I have written things that people would say are authoritarian, and things where people said I must be a libertarian. I have called for social control. I have also called for great degrees of liberty, even almost styling myself a libertarian.

I read 'on anarchism' by noam chomsky, and agreed with a lot of it, but I also don't necessarily disagree with statements by various conservative thinkers, at times. I have listened to plenty of jordan peterson (who was less conservative early on, and is now too far to the right) and douglas murray for example, but I also like to follow vaush. Depending on what issues come up to think about, I might appear to rescind much of my free-wheeling side, or ride with it

Overall though, I am not really a follower I don't think, but I make up my own mind on things

I have historically been in favor of the pro-choice argument, and probably am an anti-natalist. I also support some ideas from the 'right,' like 2nd amendment rights, and free speech (though I don't think either american party really likes free speech.) I don't care who marries whom. I am not going to stop you from believing something, and I think one's religion or non-religion might provide utility to fortify subjective individual states for the better. Or they might make things worse, in which case maybe change is advisable

Lines get crossed however, when certain social practices or behavior affect people other than you negatively, when you partake in them, and they don't. I put alcohol at the top of the list as seeming to be toxic when thrown into a family dynamic. It isn't about different individuals in a family disagreeing with the values of another for doing it, that seems beside the point - it is far more likely they will be the subject to alcohol-driven behaviors whether they like alcohol, or not.

Question Everything
I preach self-reliance, am protective of kids - wish all kids were given a broader education. I push my own kids academically. The people we try to control are those we love. I wish my dad was nicer to my mom. I wish my sil would divorce my bil (who is in jail), I wish others would protect their kids. Self-reliance. In my experience, those who get hurt are those who can't walk away because they aren't self-reliant.

*Chains himself to a tree*

I saw someone do this on tv as a protest once. So...I win!

That's not what I heard from @sun rise .

People need more mental treatment. Mental Clinics, more doctors. Not only for body, but to make them more comfortable, more loveable.

Are you an anarchist? Or maybe a libertarian?
