Question to the Jehovah's Witnesses.About the human spirit.

In 2 Cor 7:1 it says the flesh and spirit can become filthy spiritually. But if the spirit is lifeforce. How can it become filthy spiritually?

Also in 1 Cor 5:5 it says the spirit can be saved. But if the spirit is just lifeforce. How can it be saved?

This Jehovah's Witnesses website.Says it is the other way around. It says the spirit is lifeforce. And what I posted is wrong. What do you think?Agree?Or disagree?:

https://www.jw.org/en/library/books/bible-teach/what-is-a-soul-spirit-meaning/

THE “SPIRIT” IDENTIFIED

The soul and the spirit are not the same. The body needs the spirit in much the same way as a radio needs electricity—in order to function. To illustrate this further, think of a portable radio. When you put batteries in a portable radio and turn it on, the electricity stored in the batteries brings the radio to life, so to speak. Without batteries, however, the radio is dead. So is another kind of radio when it is unplugged from an electric outlet. Similarly, the spirit is the force that brings our body to life. Also, like electricity, the spirit has no feeling and cannot think. It is an impersonal force. But without that spirit, or life-force, our bodies “die and return to the dust” as the psalmist stated.

By the way.The bible I got my bible passages from was the king james version.:)

You stumbled upon an error in the Bible, or to be more precise "here the Bible teaches a bit duality, and not the pure Advaita Teaching (non dual)". In Hindu terminology this is called "Qualified Non-dualism"

If you understand this Hindu concept of Dualism vs Non Dualism well, then these seemingly inconsistencies in the Bible all disappear at once, and the Bible is much less confusing

Simply explained:
Dualism: I am in the Light (of God)
Qualified Non Dualism: The Light is in me
Non Dualism: I am the Light

"Spirit" resembles "Qualified Non-dualism"

"Soul" resembles "Non Dualism"

@Frank Goad: Did this make it a bit clearer?

Vishishtadvaita, (Sanskrit: “Qualified Non-dualism” or “Non-dualism of the Qualified”) one of the principal branches of Vedanta, a system (darshan) of Indian philosophy. This school grew out of the Vaishnava (worship of the god Vishnu) movement prominent in South India from the 7th ce century on.

Also in 1 Cor 5:5 it says the spirit can be saved. But if the spirit is just lifeforce. How can it be saved?
Again solved easy like above

That is an interesting subject and, as you can see, there will be a multiplicity of application depending on one's philosophical and religious worldview.

Is it a life-force? If the definition is where we get the force or power for living, yes. But more than just a life-force...

As mentioned by Jesus, that which is born of the Spirit is spirit (it is the same word). The Holy Spirit is more than a life-force, it is the person of God. Our spirit is more than just a life-force, it is the essence of who we are.

As mentioned by Hockeycowboy, it does have a number of applications.

Our spirits do need to be saved. If one is not born again, one cannot see the Kingdom of God as mentioned in John 3. It needed saving as it was separated from the life, presence and person of God.

! Corinthians 5:5 is speaking of a man who was saved (spiritually) but his constant violation of
the Spirit of God could cost him the connection of his spirit to God's spirit and thus let Satan steal, kill and destroy the body so that his uniting of his spirit with God's Spirit can remain intact.

Not quite sure what the question is.

How can you demonstrate that that interpretation of yours is correct?

We believe that in this text Paul is talking about "saving" the spirit of the whole congregation where this sinner belongs to. The word spirit refers also to attitude in general, like when people say "the spirit of Christmas".

If an unrepentant sinner is kept inside the congregation, the rest of brothers may relax and neglect Christian moral standards and principles, so the spirit of the congregation is weakened and others may follow in the footsteps of the sinner. Still the holy spirit within the congregation could be "saddened" or affected by permissiveness.

No... it is all very contextual and in black and white:

1 Corinthians 5:5
To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

One... not congregation.

Spirit and soul are the same meaning in some biblical contexts. They both are eternal and have a beginning. The spirit goes back to God Who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7. The spirit is conscience and divine connection. Its a telephone we can use to spiritually connect to God. It also provides moral support, literally. Its what makes us good and have standards. Souls are control mechanisms. They are the real being, and make the choices and decisions based on our mentality, its free will. The soul is important because it has ability to either connect to the flesh (body) (demonic mentality and realm) or the spirit (Godly nature and relativity to God)
