Alex Jones to pay 49.3 million in Sandy Hook civil case.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
You made a comment. That put a burden of proof, so to speak, upon you.

Admit that you had no clue as to what you were talking about and I will gladly inform you.
No.

My comment was using the acquisition of personal wealth as a means to silence people.

My question was what actual damage did Alex do?

That burden is on those saying there was damage, so there is no burden of proof on my part.

Learn how it works.

First it was 4.1 million in compensatory damages and just now another 45.2 million in punitive damages.

This amount may yet change, but there are still other cases to come.

“Alex Jones has learned that 'speech is free, but lies you have to pay for,' says lawyer”
It’s a nice, but far too tiny first step.

Censorship by economy.
Alex is a nutball but silencing people because they don't like him is authoritarian.
Unfortunately he hasn’t been silenced as he deserves to be. He still has worshipful zealot followers like his hero tRump. Plus, since he still earned millions of dollars more than this pittance of a fine over the last decade since he started to send his worshipping troops after the slaughtered children’s families, then he (plus other degenerate scum like him) will see his techniques as a way to earn millions $$$. And they won’t be fiscally incorrect to come to that conclusion.

A just and lawful government and society would make such a bankrupt, and almost pitiable piece of human detritus out of this profiteering scum, that he and others will never try this again.
Clearly his sponsors must be fined (painfully) as well.

What exactly does that damage entail?
Death threats and other harassment against the grieving family members of the children slaughtered by the ****-head who walked into their school with military weapons. You know, just for kicks.
The ****-heads who harassed the family members? Jones’ listeners. And yes, they should suffer too.

No, he can keep saying what he wants, but if it harms people then the legal system will make him pay.

The odd thing about rights is that it demands the users of rights to be ethical for them to be an asset. Abuse rights and they become a liability.

Let's note that Jones is now claiming that he is broke, and if his listeners want the show to stay on the air they need to buy stuff in big numbers. That is a conman. Sounds a lot like Trump. They have the most gullible and stupid followers.

And this will not bankrupt him. He can still lie on his shows. But his earning were gone over by a forensic economist for the trial:

A quote from the info:

Economist Bernard Pettingill Jr. reveals Alex Jones' estimated net worth and yearly revenue across all of his companies, including offshore accounts. "We know $61.9 million was withdrawn from company accounts and paid to Alex Jones in 2021," Pettingill said.

And that is sizable chunk of his wealth but he has at least another hundred million dollars.

I'm not sure I like financially punishing a comedian for their act.
I wish that he was a comedian. The problem is that people took him seriously and harassed the family members who lost children. Some of the point to where they had to move. His lies hurt others. People that had been badly hurt by an event that they were in no way responsible for. His actions were practically criminal.
