Jan 6 Rioter gets 87 month prison term

No, it was your claim that the article targeted Trump supporters. My claim was that the article was using a bigger number to possibly impress dolts. Trump supporters and dolts are not the same thing.
Are you sure that Trump supporters and dolts are not synonyms?

Perhaps if you had not thrown the first stone you would not have them chucked so accurately back at you.

I can never understand why prison sentences that long are expressed as such: 87 months. Why can't they just say 7.25 years?

I don't think .25 would work, though "7 years 3 months" would be OK. .25 of what? 365? Then it wouldn't be months. 12? But then which months? They have different numbers of days.

And now I'm wondering how it is applied in practice. Does a person sentenced to one month whose incarceration starts on February 1 serve less time than someone that starts on December 1? How does it work if (as most must) sentences start part way through a month? How about Leap years? Do people serve an extra quarter day?

Inquiring minds want to know!

But let all the illegals in and give them all the privileges of a citizen?
No one is doing this. Why bring up a totally false scenario and just defend your belief on this specific issue? Not feeling confident? You conservatives are typically all about throwing the book at people who break the law. Could it be that the whole Trump lie that has driven a series of crimes by conservatives is a huge embarrassing black eye on conservatism? Trying to save face by being upset because criminals who should have known better are being sentenced?

Right, the BBC is a reputable news source. We can't expect Trump supporters to use reputable media.
I liked...well, tolerated...watching OAN back in the day.
Cuz it was a window into MAGA minds. The massive
misinforming propaganda....watching it was like
observing gorillas in the mist.

I would watch OAN a few times out of curiosity and could only stand a minute or two. No wonder service providers dropped them.

Compared to the debacle she was involved in.
Not much prison time.
Small fine.
Probation is no problem.
Cancer shouldn't mean going without punishment.
and now we can understand why judges judge differently! :)

It Aint Necessarily So

I don't think "Granny" will help...
Video: Grandmother, 69, with Cancer Reports to Prison for Jan. 6 Charges, Has Message for Americans
Misdemeanor, no prior conviction, 69 years old.... no mercy.

It not the court's job to mete out mercy. It's in the justice business, and the two are are incompatible. And this wouldn't be the time to do it if it were. This is not the place to be lenient. Let this woman's family and friends see her scarlet A. Let her be forever deeply ashamed and remorseful. This wasn't shoplifting.

The 87 months was merciful, which I also consider to be a mistake for the same reason. It was literally the lowest sentence permitted by sentencing guidelines for the crimes this guy was convicted of committing. The terrorism enhancement was rejected by the judge. Sentencing guidelines were 87-105 months. This guy's not remorseful. He's regretful. Remorse requires empathy. He doesn't mind what he did to America. He minds what he did to himself.

Anyone think President Biden, the “uniter-in-chief”, will give him a pardon?

Why would Biden pardon a convicted felon who attacked the United States?

Regarding uniting, I'm pretty sure that Biden realized that that would be impossible, but saying the words was a stark contrast to Trump. Teaming up with the Republicans is undesirable for as long as they remain enemies of the Constitution and the American people. This is why Jordan and Banks were not allowed to "unite" with the January 6th committee. They were hostile to the process and purpose of the committee. You don't compromise with such people. You neutralize them, as Pelosi did.

And that describes the Republican party considered collectively as well. You don't cozy up to such people. You look for ways to neutralize them. You look for ways to defeat them at the polls in numbers sufficient to consign them to irrelevance.

According to the article, "one misdemeanor count of demonstrating, parading or picketing in the U.S. Capitol Building. Three earlier charges were dropped. On May 24, she was sentenced to two months in prison and three years of probation and ordered to pay $500 in restitution."

If she was worried about her health given she has breast cancer and prison "terrifies" her then the onus was on her to stay home. She weaseled her way down to a misdemeanor, had 3 other charges dropped, and got just 2 months behind bars? Sounds like the court was far too merciful.

All these individuals should be looking at no less than a decade in prison. Preferably at Guantanamo. That includes the cretinous GOP politicians involved in this failed coup. Patriots my aunt fanny.

Far too lenient, IMO the 15 years sought by the prosecution should have been a minimum, not a maximum. I just saw an interview with Refitt's son, who turned his father in. Considering his parents (his mother appears to be a nutter too), it's nothing short of amazing how level-headed and clear-thinking that young man is. Sometimes the apple manages to fall and roll far enough from the tree so as not to be rotten as well.
