I Love You

I'm still having a hard time accepting that there are gods who love me and are looking out for me. But then again...

I fully understand and it has taken me a while to get back to that point as well.

I believe that there are Gods looking out for you, and loving you though. Even if you can't see that just yet.

I certainly don't see it and I'm not sure I ever will either. I wish I could think of it as a comforting thought, but I can't because I feel like I was fooled into believing in a "loving" God when I was a Christian and when I was growing up. So, I don't want to fall for that and be ensnared by a religion again. As far as I'm concerned, my indoctrinated belief in a God who loved me and wanted to save me is totally incompatible with the brutal reality of what I endured while growing up. Now I feel like I'm much better off on my own without relying on God or any gods to help me. But I won't say anything else about my concerns because I don't want to derail your positive thread.

But Polytheistic Wiccans have gods, don't they?

Yes, but as one myself, I don't rely on these gods or goddesses to help me and I don't love them. To be honest, I'm content to keep my new beliefs at arm's length. I don't feel comfortable showing devotion to a god or goddess at this time in my life because of my deep animosity towards the Christian God and because of the hardships I lived through when I was a Christian and before that while I was growing up. I learned a painful lesson not to be dependent upon a god, so I won't let myself be emotionally attached to another deity.

Honest question...is it the God that was problematic, or the religion?

As an atheist, I'm obviously thinking it's the religion. But I don't want to preclude that you have a belief in both the Christian God and other Gods in a literal sense, and see the Christian God as a problem.
