Game Prayers

"The district said it didn't oppose Kennedy praying but asked that he pray alone and away from students, even offering him the option to return to the field after students and other bystanders left the area after the games.

The school district said Kennedy's conduct could be perceived as a government endorsement of religion, which the First Amendment's establishment clause prohibits.

After multiple lower courts dismissed his legal challenges, Kennedy turned to the Supreme Court, which took up his case and ultimately sided with him.

In her dissent, Sotomayor also ripped the court's decision as eroding the separation between church and state.

"The Court sets us further down a perilous path in forcing States to entangle themselves with religion, with all of our rights hanging in the balance," Sotomayor wrote. "As much as the Court protests otherwise, today's decision is no victory for religious liberty."

Sotomayor: SCOTUS decision backing coach prayer 'misconstrues the facts'

So, my friendly religious conservatives. What would your thoughts be if I flipped this around, and instead of it being a prayer to Yahweh; I led a group sacrifice to Odin, the chicken I want to sacrifice will be dead prior to arrival of course. It will only be used symbolically (at that moment).

I'm obviously not a conservative... Pushback needs to occur whenever crap like this is pushed through by partisan hacks. If there are kids on the team of different religions, those need to be given equal time. Bury them in multiple demands until they acquiesce one way or another. Either all religious views are given time, or none are.

I am a school teacher. I could lead my class in a Samhain ritual sacrificing an Oak King effigy and installing a Holly King effigy to give offerings to.
Lol. I'll do you one better. I'm planning on working with kids. Going to school for a degree in early childhood education. I have applied to daycares. Two of which are christian daycares ran by a church. I worship Lucifer and Lilith. Two well known demons. Who wants to have me lead kids in prayer to Satan and his wife?

Not that id ever do this but just saying these judges need to think.

They underestimate the number of folks who are not interested in their bull anymore.

I genuinely would like to know. What does an Odin worshipper feel when they reach out to their God(s)?

That's a tough one, and I'd say it varies depending on the deity(s) being invoked.

Odin is immeasurably powerful, a bestower of Wisdom, and an ineffable presence.

Freya, emanates the qualities of a loving and kind mother, a lustful maiden, and a Seidr (Magick) practicing crone. She also contains the wrath of a mother scorned when necessary.

Thor, is like a big brother. Will look out for you when necessary, but has his own Giants to deal with. He's friendly if not a bit aloof.

I can cover other deities if you're interested. And if I didn't answer your question appropriately feel free to ask clarifying questions.

It's not about what deity we like better, but what the Constitution allows.

So in retort.

The constitution guarantees a seperating of church and state.

Schools are State. Praying is Church. Don't pray during schooling events, unless they are going to allow every other religion to do the same.

No, it really doesn't. That's where the disagreement lies.

The relevant part of the First Amendment:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

Plainly speaking, that's just saying that Congress cannot make a law to establish a state religion or restrict the practice of religion. There's nothing that coach did that violated the First Amendment, especially if no one was forced to partake.

So we don't have a seperation of church and state in the US?

"Both Jefferson and fellow Virginian James Madison felt that state support for a particular religion or for any religion was improper."

This classifies as support in my opinion. The federal govt now openly supports Christianity.
