This comes as no surprise. This is in agreement with the Vatican position on abortion.

That's a little harsh imo.

But I understand you're sentiment.
I don't think it is as the Vatican has lost all ground on which to speak about morality and what is good. They take in rapists, refuse to make priests mandatory reporters, blame the victims, blame the free love Hippy culture, and they want to speak of morality and goodness? Even before the sex abuse scandals were revealed it's not like it has ever practiced what Christ taught anyways. It was even literally designed in a way that is unChrist, like the extremely gaudy appearance of it all, all the wars its started, and all the times it has mingled with and directly interfered with state affairs.

The Vatican may want to address its child abuse epidemic if it cares about children instead of embroiling itself in politics and issuing statements supporting restrictions on the freedoms of people who don't believe in or practice Catholic doctrine.

It certainly doesn't help them avoid that "pro-fetus" thing I'm hearing more often.

It is markedly oblivious of the Vatican of all countries to use religious dogma as a basis from which to sound its endorsement of a statewide ruling restricting a specific freedom. It feels as if it had forgotten or ignored the Church's own long, morally repulsive history of oppression and inhumanity due to theocratic thinking.

When human men can grow a baby from human sex in just a man's human body. Naturally owned. Then claim my rights.

The Natural woman body does not own a baby first.....
Then you can argue balanced human rights. Equality.

As men many times force sex onto a woman who doesn't own a baby first.

Claiming legal.... what about a woman owning her rights to her natural body type first....no baby!

If men governing say right to life and no evil weapons allowed. No wars allowed as legal rights of any human is a baby murdered.

Yet you don't do you. You send baby humans off to be murdered. On your behalf.

Rights to life. Don't have sex.

First position my natural body type.

The Vatican issued a statement praising the U.S. Supreme Court decision in the Dobbs case which overturned Roe v. Wade.

US Supreme Court Abortion

It was good to see that part of the statement involved caring for the women and families and society providing adequate medical care and assistance and places for the baby to go if the mother does not want it.
There also seemed to be a recognition that the whole issue is going to require ongoing discussion.

That’s in the past. They actually publish a list of priest molesters, have a hotline for those who have been abused, and so on. The Church’s practices regarding pedo priests today is not like it was all those decades leading up to the 2000s.

It has.

The statement carefully avoids praising the decision.

What it does is to restate its position on pro-life. All the Court did was anti-abortion alone.

It is a question of developing political choices that promote conditions of existence in favor of life without falling into a priori ideological positions. This also means ensuring adequate sexual education, guaranteeing health care accessible to all and preparing legislative measures to protect the family and motherhood, overcoming existing inequalities. We need solid assistance to mothers, couples and the unborn child that involves the whole community, encouraging the possibility for mothers in difficulty to carry on with the pregnancy and to entrust the child to those who can guarantee the child’s growth.

The harshness is also accurate & relevant to
the church's lack of any moral authority in the
eyes of any outside that faith.
Actually the staunchest advocates for the abortion ban are the Bible-Belt- states where there is an overwhelming Baptist majority. Or Protestant in general.
In Catholiland (my country) no politician has ever cast doubts on abortion.

It's difficult to say who is the "staunchest".
But it's clear that Catholics aren't alone in
wanting more theocracy.
