How much for that quick doctor’s visit?

So I had a minor medical emergency today. Completely my fault, but had a new piecing that didn’t heal very well.
Let’s just say.
Long story short I had to get the piercing quickly (and professionally) removed, which is a shame because I thought it looked cute. Anyway I got a tetanus jab and some antibiotics for my strife.

All up the entire visit cost me $10 AUD, which was just for the antibiotics. Oh and I need to get some betadine solution from the grocery store, just to keep the area clean and sterilised until it heals.

I’m just wondering how much such a thing would cost a person elsewhere. If you are comfortable with sharing such a thing, of course. Mainly curious for my US brethren’s results, but anyone can answer, if they want.
And bonus question, do you think you paid too much lol

Couple hundred bucks, for all of that...

Hope you heal well! :)
I just checked and $202 for the visit. Since the doc accepts Medicare, the cost was discounted to $100 and insurance paid that (outside of the annual deductible.

You pay more than the out of pocket cost.
One just doesn't notice it in taxes.

€5 deductible for the prescribed antibiotics (or any other prescribed medicine) plus the full cost of the disinfectant (if not prescribed).

Well of course. But I’d honestly rather pay my taxes than pay my taxes on top of health insurance and healthcare costs. No offence

Here in WI, dentist insurance is different from other medical, so last year when I got the tartar chipped out of my mouth, I had to pay out of pocket. Over 500 bucks. But who cares about that, let's fund 40 billion for military stuff in ukraine.

Yeah for some reason dental isn’t covered under our Medicare system either (though there are options for public and I think serious medical emergencies are waved off of the out of pocket bill.)

My son-in-law, a dentist, charges around USD 12.75 (INR 1,000) for consultation, which I think is a bit high for just a look and a talk. :)

At an Indian government hospital, nothing. They would fob it with Tincture Iodine or Betadine, if they have it in stock, and curse you for having gone for piercings. One may have to wait in line for an hour or two. Our problem is numbers, 1.4 billion.
If the person is in the poor category, the family can avail treatment at any government or private hospital up to USD 6,390, which the government will pay.
I have not paid for any medical help except for one occasion in a private hospital (probably a heart/paralytic problem 8 yeas ago which quickly cleared up), otherwise it has always been free with medicines provided as bonus, always by contacts. My brother was a doctor and my son-in-law is a well-connected dentist, actually the Secretary of the Delhi Dental Association.

I guess it depends on what kind of insurance someone has, how much of a co-pay and deductible there might be. It varies. But it can be expensive, even with insurance.

I think our healthcare system is in line with the general spirit of self-reliance and capitalism, where only the strong and the wealthy are fit to survive, while those who can't afford it end up on the short end.

My son has an medical insurance on my life and that of my wife, but that is more for tax-saving purpose.

Had something similar happen a few weeks ago with a piercing, ended up with an MRSA infection. It ran me roughly $350 US.

MRSA is nasty stuff. I had a random MRSA infection on my stomach, and had to wear a huge bandage(along with meds).

I think your system is based off how much your insurance agencies can make off their clients. Which admittedly is in the spirit of capitalism. But still.
We do have private healthcare insurance here in order to “jump the queue” but I think the idea is more “a citizen that lives is a better consumer than one who is dead” lol

Oh that sucks.
Hope it wasn’t too awful and you recovered well

I’m hoping I got in early enough to ward off infection. The nurses seemed optimistic with my having a full recovery, so I’m taking that as a good sign

They wanted me to take the piercing out, but I wasn't willing to lose it. I used glass plugs for a while (glass doesn't hold bacteria), and took the meds they gave me for it.

My ear was swollen, and my ear/neck/jaw hurt from the infection. No bueno. @SomeRandom

If I were to have a similar procedure it would cost $0-$20, depending on some particulars.

But you totally ignored that you will pay, assuming you are an average Australian, 2% of your income as a Medicare tax. My insurance costs are <1% of my income.

Like I said, no offence, but I’d rather my tax fund my hospital stays instead of paying my taxes, on top of paying for medical insurance, medical fees, consultant fees and medications if necessary.
If I want VIP treatment I can get insurance
