What if you could see and communicate with the deceased?

All you need is love.
First, I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself to those who aren't familiar with who I am. I'm Sgt. Pepper, and I'm a firm believer in the paranormal: first as a medium and sensitive, second as a paranormal researcher and investigator, and third as an eyewitness to poltergeist activity and other paranormal phenomena. Secondly, I'd like to explain the purpose of my thread and set some ground rules for participating in it. The primary goal of my thread is to start a conversation with others about how they would respond if they had the ability to see the dead, interact with the dead, and sense their presence. I know that there are people who are skeptical and don't believe that ghosts and other paranormal phenomena are real, and there are people of faith who don't believe because of their religious beliefs. But, for the purpose of my thread, I would like to set aside these factors and any other factors for disbelief.

I'm asking the skeptics to have an open mind to the possibility of interacting with the dead.

Now the ground rules: I want to be clear that the purpose of my thread is not to debate whether the paranormal is real or not, and to fervently argue with me and others about it. My thread isn't for soapbox preaching either. It isn't a platform for Christians (and other Abrahamic theists) to claim that believing in the existence of earthbound human spirits (a.k.a. ghosts) is against what's taught in the Bible or in some other holy book or to insist that these spirits are demonic. The atmosphere of my thread is meant to be lighthearted.

I repeat, my thread isn't a debate thread or a preaching soapbox. Also, ridiculing members who don't share the same beliefs as you do isn't allowed on Religious Forums. Thank you, in advance, for your understanding and cooperation. I appreciate it.

And now, with that all said and done, How would you react to being able to see and communicate with the dead?

I'd be calm and collected. I would also be highly curious and probably annoy the dead with hundreds of questions. They'd likely ignore me after a while.

"Ignore her, she'll go away." ~:ghost::ghost::ghost:

Most spirits are patient when interacting with the living, but they do tend to get annoyed and bored after awhile. That's why there are idiotic paranormal investigators who like to provoke the spirits, because they know they can possibly drag out the interaction with the spirits longer by provoking them. But then most of them run off screaming like little girls when an extremely ticked off spirit retaliates by physically attacking them by scratching, pushing, or throwing an object at them. I'm like, "Well, what did you expect?" when I see another paranormal investigator running for their life after provoking the spirits. That can happen when you antagonize the dead.

I don't watch paranormal investigators for the most part because of their rude attitudes... you wouldn't go into someone's house and order the living to 'show themselves', so why would you do it to the deceased?

I'd consult a therapist.

Lol. I would be the one to tell the therapist that they have a spirit attached to them, then I would give them specific details about what the spirit looks like and repeat what the spirit says to me, and then I would ask the stunned therapist if they know who the spirit is.

Thankfully, some therapists are open to the paranormal. Mine is. :)

Exactly. If I ask a spirit to confirm their presence, then I'm polite and respectful. I will specifically tell the spirit what my intentions are for being in their space and ask their permission if I can take their picture or record their voice. I don't ever disrespect the dead.

Thankfully, some therapists are open to the paranormal. Mine is. :)

I've encountered people who weren't open to believing in the paranormal during my paranormal investigations, but they were more open to it after talking to me and witnessing poltergeist activity with their own eyes. I welcome skeptics during my investigations.

I think I'd be natural about it, like my middle son is. I would treat the spirits I encounter about the same as I would another person.

My 19-year old daughter is natural with the paranormal too. Her abilities are equal to mine. My other children exhibit clairsentience to a degree and a couple of them are also an empath like me. I told them that it was their decision if they embraced their gift or not.

My oldest doesn't have it, and I have no idea with the youngest, but the middle one does. He also doesn't understand this is unusual(he's autistic) and will talk about who he sees as naturally as he would talk about the newspaper carrier.

My daughter began to exhibit her abilities when she was four years old. I was six years old when I saw my first spirit. My children had "imaginary friends" when they were younger, but I wasn't concerned because the spirits they were interacting with were benevolent. I waited to see which ones would continue to see spirits as they got older, but my 19-year old daughter was the only one of my children who did so on a daily basis. I made it a priority in my life to give my children the support I never had growing up with these abilities.

I don't believe in any of this stuff, but I will say that I quite regularly have dreams in which my late wife comes back to see me. I sometimes ask her how she did it, who gave permission and so on, and have even been known to worry (within the dream) about how to get her a passport again, seeing as she is dead according to the official records, and so on. She's been dead for almost 6 years now and I still get one of these every few months. They are not in the least disturbing, rather domestic and matter of fact, though sometimes when I wake it takes a few seconds to get my bearings and realise that she is not back after all.

I suspect this is common - and benign. I certainly do not feel the need to consult a therapist about it.

I have mixed feelings. Someone I knew who has since died had that ability and thought of it as a real nuisance because she wanted to focus on the present and the living.

But there's also an interesting book "Testimony of Light" that recounted conversations with a friend after she had died and who was dedicated to helping the deceased transition.

On balance I have enough on my plate without this ability.

It's commonly believed among people like myself who believe in the paranormal that our deceased loved ones can and do visit us in our dreams. In fact, it's believed that dreams are the most common contact that people have with their deceased loved ones.

I have good days and I have bad days with these abilities. As I explained in a thread about being an empath, there are days when it really sucks, but there are days when it's been a positive experience. And there are times when I wish I could turn it off, but there isn't an off switch. My husband once asked me, "You never get a break, do you?" I told him, "No, I don't." I've learned to adapt my life to it.

Aha. That's interesting. So now I have an explanation, from my own personal experience, of how these ideas may arise.
