Let's face it, 18 cents isn't going to do much good. Until the war between Russia and Ukraine is over, we will be having oil price problems.

The gas tax funds infrastructure.
If worth doing, then why suspend it for small
savings at the pump? Political pandering.

Well it appears that, IMO, that Biden is attempting a stunt to alleviate the problem he helped cause by proposing a 3 month suspension of the federal fuel tax.

However the idea isn't exactly found favor in Congress by both sides.

Funny, and i thought this fuel crisis is putins fault. How do you twist it to be Biden

It appears that Obama is more culpable than Biden.
Perhaps Putin expected Biden & Ukraine to respond
as weakly ad did Obama. But it became otherwise.

Yes, Obama should never have let the Crimea be overrun. That was equivalent to the take over of the Sudetenland.

Our government did it and the prices went down a little bit. But at the same time the mineral oil corporations took the main share of the easing. They are under investigation for price fixing. It would be more useful to look at them first.

I voted "No" for a couple of reasons, with one of them being that our infrastructure badly needs to be upgraded plus people need to make adjustments when living in a free market economy. Thus, I'd rather see increases in some other areas to help those in need.

In my recent travels, I've seen gas prices vary
from $4.77 to $5.29. If price fixing were going
on, I'd expect more uniformity.
But the masses do love to blame business.
And politicians exploit this.

Prices vary here also, otherwise it would be too obvious. The tell is in the price for crude on the Rotterdam market in relation to the prices at the pump.

Oh, well....better to have prices fixed by business than by government.
I vividly remember the long lines at the pumps when Carter fixed prices.
At least with a free market I can readily buy gas when I want.

You can but for others petrol prices become prohibitive. When you have a long commute to a not so well paying job, at a certain price, it isn't worth starting the trip. It can make sense then, to artificially lower the price to stop unemployment. But it would be more effective to subsidise those who need to get to their job instead of indiscriminately give the subsidy to everyone.

There is an advantage in allocation by price.
Those of greater economic value can afford it.
It's not perfect. But it beats rationing by having
people wait hours in line at a gas station that
will soon run out because the regulated price
is dysfunctionally low.
Higher prices also encourage conservation.

BTW, I agree about individual subsidizing
being better than the blanket approach.

He proposed that but refused to open the Canadian US pipeline.

He keep the true colors well under the hood of which his real objective is that he wants to keep fuel higher still while trying to appear sensitive and responsive to the common person as far as I'm concerned.
