Is it the new Covid-19 i.e. pandemic ?
No. Not a chance. It is very hard to transmit. It's just an oddity, made more newsworthy by the fact that we have all gone through a pandemic and are consequently a bit twitchy about this sort of thing. Is it the new Covid-19 i.e. pandemic ?
What about people that believe in evolution though? You know, descended from monkeys...It could be a pox from God.No. Not a chance. It is very hard to transmit. From what I've been reading, this one is much harder to transmit, so if people are careful, it might not be that bad. Oh wait, I just said people and being careful in the same sentence. Nevermind...
Cases in the UK have doubled to 20 and there have been cases in USA, Spain and Portugal.
Nope. It’s not very transmittable and is treatable. There’s also vaccines if needed. Is it the new Covid-19 i.e. pandemic ?

So we simply vaccinate all the monkeys. Problem solved.Nope. It’s not very transmittable and is treatable. There’s also vaccines if needed.
20 out of 64 million. When a person says 'cases doubled' it is often without context, but sounds scary.
If you have one case, then you have two, cases have doubled but are insignificant.
Not a jab at you, but an observation of the news cycle.
Well , if you want to work yourself into a lather about this I can't stop you. But frankly, since it is transmitted almost exclusively via skin to skin contact, i.e. it is literally contagious, as opposed to infectious, I am not going to be losing any sleep over this. Most of the cases are in the male homosexual community, among people who sleep around a lot. If you are not one of those and don't share accommodation with someone who is, I really do not think you are at any appreciable risk.In theory it could infect the majority of the UK in 3 weeks

They are saying its nowhere near as contagious as CoVid19 though
We do not know that any of this is growth. This is just the number of reported cases.1 week since I've posted and we in the UK have now reached 100+ cases. So it took 7 days for it to grow 5x . Its certainly not doubling every 2 days but I'd like to see how fast Covid-19 grew

Now that clinics have been made aware of the presence of this previously rare disease, they are alert and diagnosing cases. It may be that in the past such cases were not recognised as due to monkeypox.
That was one estimate. Others, reported in the same article are <1.How fast did the Alpha variant of Covid-19 grow ?
According to
How contagious is monkeypox? R number vs. COVID
The Omicron variant of Covid-19 had an R number of 12 while Deltacron had an R number of 8
The R number of Monkeypox is 2.13

We are talking about monkeypox.
